Bellingham to Dortmund: A new chapter in 17 years old’s career
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Speculations were going around for a long time about the future of 17-year-old kid Jude Bellingham as Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are very much interested in the Birmingham City player. But finally, Bellingham to Dortmund has taken place as the German club has confirmed the deal officially today on their website and social media.

Bellingham to Dortmund: Contract details

Jude Bellingham will sign a five-year contract for the German club till June 2025. Borussia Dortmund would pay around 23 million Euros to Birmingham as part of the deal. The decision was made due to “project of the club” and a “chance to become starter” according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Why Bellingham chooses Dortmund?

Bellingham has finally chosen Dortmund as his destination. Many clubs were also in the race to sign the English youngster which included Manchester United. The English giants were very much interested in the youngster and also invited him with his parents to see the club’s training facilities and also for a visit to Old Trafford. Jude Bellingham also spoke with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about his future if he joins the Manchester Club and reports were coming that none other than Sir Alex Ferguson was himself present at the meeting.

I can’t thank Birmingham City enough for what the club did for me – not just this season, but since I came to the club when I was seven. Now I’m really excited to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe. BVB’s path, but especially how they help young players to improve, made the decision very easy for me personally and for my whole family. I can’t wait to play in one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world”

But Dortmund was also included in the race and made a better move than United by offering the player guaranteed first-team football chance. Manchester United later also told the midfielder that he can make a direct first team entry if he can perform well in rest of the season but the midfielder was not convinced about that and chose to go to Germany.

Jude Bellingham: The wonderkid

Jude Bellingham is absolutely in brilliant form this season. He has great passing ability, good ball control and has a good defensive contribution. He has played 38 games for Birmingham City, scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists. He mainly played as a central midfielder. Birmingham manager Pep Clotet is very much amazed by the kid and told earlier that Bellingham will become a great player in future.

“I think Jude is a player who is growing steadily. He is more used to the league and more used to the position that he is playing. He is not just focusing on playing his game, he is focusing on helping us to win. What has surprised me a lot is how strong his mentality is to cope with all of this. He never gets down. Every little mistake is just an opportunity for him to learn. He is so impressive.

On a personal point, it makes me proud that I was here with him when he started this journey, and he makes the club and his team-mates proud for the fact one of our players is attracting this interest. I think it’s fantastic for the club.”

Dortmund has finished their Bundesliga campaign of 2019/20 at 2nd place with 69 points, 13 behind champion Bayern Munich. Birmingham is currently at 20th position in EFL Championship with 50 points. Manchester United is currently at 5th place in Premier League table with 62 points and just 1 point behind Chelsea.
