Chilwell’s career at a glance

Ben Chilwell started his career from Leicester City academy on 2014/15 season. He made his senior team debut on 2016/17 season. He already amazed people as a Left Back. He played 123 matches for Leicester City, scored 4 goals and provided 10 assists. He established himself as a complete Left Back. He also won 2015/16 Premier League winner’s medal for Leicester City. The man who guided Leicester to that fairy tale, former manager Claudio Ranieri also praised Chilwell and expressed that the English Youngman can be one of the best left-back of the world in future.

“It’s fantastic news for us. Ben is a player with a big future and I am very happy that his future will be with Leicester City. Ever since I arrived in Leicester, Ben has been a young player that has shown a lot of promise. He has all the attributes you would want in a defender and shows a lot of maturity for a player of just 19. He has come back for pre-season in very good condition and is already showing that he is ready to push for a place in the team. I am hopeful about him.”

Why Lampard was keen on bringing Chilwell to Chelsea

Chelsea was struggling with their defence for a long time. Also this season their defence was one of the worst in the league. Chelsea has conceded 54 goals this season in the Premier League, which was 10th most in the league and most in the top 6 teams. Chelsea has suffered most at the left side of the defence. Current Left-back Marcos Alonso failed to show his defensive calibre and that made Chelsea manager Frank Lampard desperate to search a new and skilled Left-Back. Additionally, Chelsea was also monitoring Ajax Left-Back Nicolas Tagliafico and Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilón who is currently at Seville for Loan. But finally, Lampard is convinced with Chilwell and decided to sign him to improve the defence.

Lampard is determined to improve the team overall this season

Ben Chilwell has played 27 matches in this season’s Premier League. He scored 3 times and provided 3 assists. His prolific performance in defense helped Leicester to set up a stable and good backline. He also helped the team in attacking areas when needed. He won his 50% duels this season(5.4), provided 78% accurate pass per game, He was very much accurate at his half(83%) also at opposition half(69%). He is also a good tackler and very much skilled in passing.

Current Leicester City manager Brendon Rodgers also praised Chilwell for his performance and told that he is desperate to keep him this summer but also not sure about Chilwell’s future at Leicester and unfortunately, his thinkings become true.

“He’s a Leicester City player and not a player we want to lose, There’s no intention to sell Ben Chilwell and there’s no need for us to sell Ben Chilwell. I also recognise players may well look beyond Leicester City. I’ve never felt that with Ben. He’s a huge talent and for me, he can be one of the world’s best left-backs. He’s understanding here what it takes every single day, not just on a game day, and what it takes to be an elite player in terms of lifestyle and professionalism. I can only see him getting better and he can get that here at Leicester, of course. I think he’s shown that, particularly this season. I can say that, but of course, players and agents may well have other ambitions for players. That’s not something you can always control.”

Other rumours

Some rumors are coming about Chelsea that they are on the verge of signing Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr as free agents as Lampard is desperate to develop his defense. Both can be very useful additions to this ever exciting Chelsea squad. Reporter Fabrizio Romano tweeted regarding this rumour some days ago.

Thiago Silva to Chelsea, here we go! The Brazilian CB today has accepted Chelsea bid until June 2022. He’s gonna leave PSG and sign for next two years. No chances for Fiorentina. Deal to be completed on next days. 🔵🇧🇷 #CFC #Chelsea #Thiago
