UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Tips and Tricks

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: PSG vs Bayern

1. Aim for a Balanced Squad

With a maximum of eight players that can be selected from any one club for the finals , it’s often tempting to fill your squad with players from the favorites ie Bayern in this case. However, we suggest thinking a bit more out of the box and select players from a wider range by spreading your squad across both the teams. With the Champions League proving to be a game of uncertainty you may be tricked, and you can never write off PSG from the tie completely. Having an uneven squad might hinder your chances in finishing high this season.

2. Keep an eye on the Injury list

Selecting the nailed-on starters is always going to increase your chances of success in the UCL Fantasy Grand Finale. Also one of the main key factors or your success will be to avoid any last-minute injuries. So remember to keep an eye on our UCL Fantasy Injury list to make sure which players make the final cut for the individual teams and on whom you should remain cautious about or avoid totally. Additionally, we will provide the lineup indications from both teams, thus giving you a clear cut idea as to how the teams will build up before the final showdown in Lisbon.

3. Selecting the proper Captain

Choosing the right captain can make or break your matchday. Example – Captaining Josip Iličić on matchday 8 handed the managers a handsome 48 points ! With the finals, you only get one shot at the target so either make the fan popular choice or stick to your gut and go against the flow. Also since the selection is more thus so is the hassle of getting the correct choice. Don’t worry we have your issues covered in our UCL Fantasy Grand Finale article.

4. Monitor Player Ownership regularly

The ‘ Selected by % ‘ in each player’s profile is a useful statistic to monitor as it allows the managers to see how popular their player picks are. For those who need to gain some points in their mini-leagues and climb up the rankings, there are plenty of tempting options with low ownership amongst the remaining teams. If your differential produces the results, you are bound to fly up in the rankings. However, remember certain players are highly-owned for a reason, and going without them represents a significant risk, so balance is key. Try to maintain a proper balance between differentials and highly owned players in your squad.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Players to look out for

Goalkeepers

Bayern’s sweeper-keeper Manuel Neuer (€6.0m) produced the goods against Lyon with a clean sheet and seven fantasy points in the semi-final win, and his owners will be hoping for more of the same against another French outfit in the final. Having five clean sheets in this season’s competition prior to Sunday’s finale, he will be boosted up to give another similar performance.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Manuel Neuer
Manuel Neuer will be dependable under the sticks

This suggestion comes with a warning as Paris No 1 Keylor Navas (€5.6m) could recover from injury in time to return between the sticks on Sunday. If the Costa Rican fails to make it, though, understudy Sergio Rico (€4.3m) could once again prove to be a canny differential ( 3% ) following his seven points against Leipzig in the semi-finals, so keep your eye on the PSG line-up before making your final decision.

Defenders

Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich (€6.5m) is everything you want from a defender as he provides both clean sheet potential and attacking returns. Both were in evidence in Wednesday’s semi-final victory against Lyon and his owners were rewarded with a healthy ten points . The German is easily the most highly selected defender ( 29% ) in the game and looks a must-own asset heading into the final.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Joshua Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich could prove high return value

Marquinhos (€6.0m ) can prove to be a very useful pick for your squad. Following his attacking returns against both Leipzig and Atalanta . As he plays ahead of the back four in a defensive midfield position, he is more prone to attacks than his other defensive compatriots. On the other hand, Kimpembe (€5.6m) is one of the lesser-owned players in the Paris backline but is surely worthy of consideration for one main reason: ball recoveries. In a match in which both teams are likely to score, ball recoveries could be the difference in terms of which defender scores the most fantasy points. Thus he can prove to be a worthy differential.

Midfielders

In-form Serge Gnabry (€8.5m) is the runaway leader in terms of popularity among the fantasy managers as the Bayern man is approaching 30% in ownership. It’s easy to see why, as the German international has nine goals and his brace against Lyon earned him 10 matchday points , meaning he is surely an essential option for the fantasy managers on the final matchday.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Di Maria
Di Maria set to combine with Neymar to score in the final third

Angel Di María (€8.4m) , who already boasts a UEFA Champions League medal owing to his triumph with Real Madrid in 2014, was in sparkling form upon his return from suspension in Tuesday’s semi-final victory over Leipzig. The Argentinian played in a front three alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappé and delivered an amazing 15-point return for his owners courtesy of a goal and two assists. That performance against Leipzig will surely keep him in the starting line-up and, given his advanced position as a forward, he will tempt the managers in handing him the armband, looking to take advantage of the extra points available to players classed as midfielders.

Forwards

The best-scoring Fantasy player in 2019/20 Robert Lewandowski (€11.1m) is unsurprisingly the most highly owned (46% ), with him surely the first name on everyone’s team sheets. The Pole has scored 55 goals in all competitions this season and is only two goals short of Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 17 in a single Champions League campaign. On the other hand, Thomas Müller (€9.0m) remains a tempting differential choice as he still only features in 5% of teams. The one-club man is no stranger to the biggest stages having done it all in the game and it would be no surprise to see him play an integral role in the final.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Neymar
It’s Now or Neymar for PSG

Neymar (€11.5m) has been a leading force for Paris since the Champions League returned with some moments of brilliance helping his side to a first-ever final in the competition. The Brazilian produced assists in both the quarter-final and semi-final victories over Atalanta and Leipzig. The 28-year-old has performed well against German opposition this season, has scored against Bayern in the past, and has also been on the scoresheet in a previous UEFA Champions League final (2015), so the omens are positive for anyone who chooses him and even further hands him the armband.

Captaincy Picks

No doubt the most highly selected captain on the final match day will be Lewandowski , and why wouldn’t he be? His goal and assist against Lyon in Wednesday’s semi-final took him to 100 fantasy points for the campaign and, if he finds the net against Paris on Sunday, he will have scored in every match he has played in this season’s competition. Those seeking to protect leads in their respective mini-leagues will look at Lewandowski as the sensible captain choice.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Serge Gnabry
Gnabry is in red hot form this season

Of course, given recent form, you could make an equal argument for handing Gnabry the armband. He has outscored the more popular Lewandowski over the last two matchdays and there is nothing to suggest he cannot do so again in the final. Hardly a differential pick, but certainly one with a better upside than Lewandowski.

On the other hand if it’s Paris game to win it you can’t look past Neymar , Mbappe and Di Maria . That trio poses equal attacking threats with The Brazilian could easily have netted bigger fantasy hauls had he converted his opportunities in front of goal. Still, the fact he is putting himself in dangerous positions bodes well for his owners against Bayern. Di Maria being classed as a midfielder will give his users bonus points for captaincy.

UCL Fantasy Grand Finale: Team Draft

Remember only 11 can play in your lineup for the match day, so don’t think your bench will come in hand. This is the final, you can keep the cheaper players untransfered from the semi finals in your bench, so that to accommodate the other valuable players. Make your best 11 and keep your focus only on them. You can completely ignore your bench for the final, only if you field guaranteed starters.

So that’s all for our UCL Fantasy Grand Finale Team Selection Guide, hope to see you again next season. If you are concerned about the list of Injuries and Suspensions , look no further:

As the UEFA Champions League enters the Semi Final stage, for the first time ever, the games will be played on single legs taking place on two consecutive days. As the Semi Final kicks off this Tuesday so does the preparations for the UCL Fantasy Semi Finals! With the semi-finals looming, are there still any under-the-radar picks – and who can you not afford to leave out?

In this UCL Fantasy Semi Finals guide, we will discuss how exactly to get the best out of the five allowed transfers. From captaincy choices to picking the differentials, how to get the best out of each team, while keeping an eye on the fixtures. Remember, three of the four Semi Finalists have never won the Champions League before. There’s a big chance of a new team getting crowned champions of Europe this season.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Tips and Tricks

1. Aim for a Balanced Squad

With a maximum of six players that can be selected from any one club for the semi-finals , it’s often tempting to fill your squad with players from the two probable finalists However we suggest thinking a bit more out of the box and select players from a wider range by spreading your squad across all the four teams. With the Champions League proving to be a game of uncertainty you may be tricked, more so like the last year’s Semi-Finals. Having a disbalance squad might put you in a situation where, despite having five additional free transfers ahead of the finals, you cannot field a full squad of 15 active players without taking points hit for transfers.

2. Keep an eye on the Injury list

Selecting the nailed-on starters is always going to increase your chances of success in the UCL Fantasy Semi Finals. Also one of the main key factors or your success will be to avoid any last-minute injuries. So remember to keep an eye on our UCL Fantasy Injury list to make sure which players make the final cut for the individual teams and on whom you should remain cautious about or avoid totally. Additionally, we will provide the lineup indications from all the four sides, thus giving you a clear cut idea as to how the teams will build up before the final showdown in Lisbon.

3. Selecting a Captain for each game day

Choosing the right captain can make or break your matchday. Example – Captaining Josip Iličić on matchday 8 handed the managers a handsome 48 points !  With the semi final schedule giving the fantasy managers two chances to get their captain right, it is worth looking at who the top candidates are from the two fixtures and building your squad around those players. Also since the selection is more thus so is the hassle of getting the correct choice. Don’t worry we have your issues covered in our UCL Fantasy Semi Finals article.

4. Monitor Player Ownership regularly

The ‘ Selected by % ‘ in each player’s profile is a useful statistic to monitor as it allows the managers to see how popular their player picks are. Try to maintain a proper balance between differentials and highly owned players in your squad.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Players to look out for

Tuesday 18th August

RB Leipzig VS Paris Saint-Germain

Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga table and lost just one game post-lock down. Leipzig continues to impress many with their outstanding performances and there is little chance of their key players going under the radar any longer, such as January signing Dani Olmo ( €6.0m ), who scored the opening goal against Atletico has caught the eye and can be useful bringing in given his advanced position on the field. Additionally, one player who continues to stand out in every game is Marcel Sabitzer ( €6.8m ). He claimed another assist on Matchday 9 and it would be no surprise if he rewarded the 8% of the managers with more in the semi-final.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Sabitzer
Leipzig looking to carry their fairy tale run in the Champions League

One of the standout performers in the round of 16, Leipzig keeper Peter Gulácsi (€4.5m) kept clean sheets in both the legs and even managed to restrict Atletico to just one goal that too a penalty. He will look to continue his run as an over-performing differential. At just €4.3m and owned by 7% , Konrad Laimer represents major differential value coming into Matchday 10. Had it not been for the penalty conceded against Atlético, the German side was very impressive defensively in denying Simeone’s men many chances and they will have to be just as tight defensively against Paris.

PSG boasts a high goalscoring attacking line upfront with Kylian Mbappé (€10.7m) and Neymar (€11.5m) , but felt the absence of Angel Di Maria (€8.4m) in their quarter-final with Atalanta. The return from suspension of one of their key creators will boost their attack. Di Maria will be fresh and will reduce the reliance on Neymar to provide that creative spark. He will be looking to add more to his tally of two goals and four assists.

Captaincy Picks

Paris left it late in their quarter-final with Atalanta last Wednesday but a Neymar -assisted goal rescued them before the winner moments later, and in truth, it was no less than the Brazilian deserved as he was the French side’s chief threat throughout. Neymar has provided attacking returns in his last four UEFA Champions League matches, with three goals and three assists , and has hit form at just the right time with Paris chasing down their first-ever UEFA Champions League crown.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Neymar
It’s Now or Neymar for Paris

Meanwhile, Leipzig’s Sabitzer has racked up four goals and three assists in the UEFA Champions League this season with his latest contribution an assist against Atlético in last Thursday’s quarter-final. Leipzig’s historic achievement of reaching the semi-finals is no fluke and the Austrian could be a canny differential captain choice on Matchday 10.

Wednesday 19th August

Lyon VS Bayern

Lyon completed the semi-final line-up and it is talented French midfielder Houssem Aouar (€7.1m) who caught our eye. Aouar was highly impressive against Manchester City in Saturday’s quarter-final with his two assists proving vital in a tactical masterclass from Lyon. On the other hand, Memphis Depay (€8.0m) has enjoyed an excellent UEFA Champions League campaign and will be the French side’s main hope going into their clash with the Bavarians.

Meanwhile with Paris No1 Keylor Navas set to miss the semi-final through injury, Bayern’s Manuel Neuer(€6.0m) is set to be the most popular goalkeeper in the semi-finals as he currently features in 14% of teams overall. The German international has kept four clean sheets in the competition this season. Selected by 26% of the owners, Joshua Kimmich (€6.5m) picked up nine fantasy points thanks to his goal and assist against Barcelona . The German international continues to prove how vital he is to owners for his attacking returns as much as his defensive capabilities.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Kimmich
Kimmich could reward well his fantasy owners

Both Thomas Muller (€9.0m) and Robert Lewandowski (€11.0m) offer goal threats and are in great form. Lewandowski is simply a must-have player for your UCL Fantasy Semi Finals squads. While Lewandowski is clearly the popular pick, Muller jumped out of the shadows against Barcelona with two goals and an assist in a 13-point haul. A guaranteed starter and a man for the big occasion, Muller can be an excellent differential going into the semi-finals with a 3% ownership value.

Captaincy Picks

If you aren’t satisfied with your captaincy points following Tuesday’s semi-final, then what better option to have as a second bite at the cherry than the ever-dependable Lewandowski ? The Bayern striker has been a cut above the rest in the Champions League this season thanks to his 14 goals combined with five assists . The Pole features in close to half of all fantasy teams and, playing in Hansi Flick ’s devastating Bayern side, could reward his owners with another haul against Lyon on Wednesday.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Aouar
It all depends on Aouar to pull up a trick against the mighty Bayern

On the other side of the field, Aouar was highly impressive against Manchester City in Saturday’s quarter-final with his two assists proving vital in a tactical masterclass from Lyon, and if the French side can repeat their heroics against Bayern, Aouar could be an astute differential captain for the fantasy managers.

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Team Draft

UCL Fantasy Semi Finals: Team Draft

With PSG-Leipzig proving to be more of a gamble, it is advisable to pick players from both the squads keeping balanced. Bayern are heavy favorites to win the Champions League not only the tie, and should any mishap happen, they are bound to go all the way.

So that’s all for our UCL Fantasy Semi Finals Team Selection Guide, hope to see you again before the Grand Finale . If you are concerned about the list of Injuries and Suspensions , look no further:

UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals: Tips and Tricks

UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals: Robert Lewandowski
It is hard to look past Lewandowski for the UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals

1. Aim for a Balanced Squad

With a maximum of five players that can be selected from any one club for the quarter-finals , it’s often tempting to fill your squad with players from the probable semi-finalists However we suggest thinking a bit more out of the box and select players from a wider range by spreading your squad across all the eight teams. If your differential produces the results, you are bound to fly up in the rankings. However, remember certain players are highly-owned for a reason, and going without them represents a significant risk, so balance is key. Try to maintain a proper balance between differentials and highly owned players in your squad.

UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals: Players to look out for

Wednesday 12th August

Atalanta VS Paris Saint-Germain

While they are the surprise package of the quarter-finals, nobody should be underestimating Atalanta. One of the most exciting attacking sides in Europe, Gian Piero Gasperini ’s side scored an incredible 98 goals in Serie A this season, more than any other side in the league. One of their star performers this season, Josip Iličić (€6.1m) , looks set to miss out on the Quarter Finals due to personal issues but Duván Zapata (€8.3m) looks capable of playing in his shoes after scoring seven goals in the Serie A .

PSG boasts a high goalscoring attacking line upfront with Kylian Mbappé (€10.6m) will be a popular choice if he can overcome injury. With Mbappe potentially out due to his injuries, and Di Maria suspended, extra responsibilities will be on Neymar (€11.4m) a tempting alternative, and represent excellent differential value. Managers will also be looking forward to owning Keylor Navas (€5.6m) after he being the highest-scoring goalkeeper in the fantasy. After keeping five clean sheets, Navas will stand confident underneath the poles for a sixth one.

Captaincy Pick

UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals: Captain Choices: Neymar
Neymar can be a lethal option for UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals captaincy choice

Managers looking at the Paris front line may want to wait until their starting line-up is released before choosing a forward, especially given the doubts surrounding Kylian Mbappé ’s involvement, but there is no denying Neymar ’s armband potential regardless. The Brazilian’s ownership is a lowly 5% despite being on the scoresheet in his last three UEFA Champions League appearances. His status as a differential and being on penalty duties will surely tempt those looking to make a fast start to Matchday 9.

Thursday 13th August

RB Leipzig VS Atletico Madrid

Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga table and lost just one game post-lockdown. They may have lost some attacking flair in departed striker Timo Werner but January signing Dani Olmo (€6.0m) , who shone for Dinamo Zagreb earlier, has caught the eye for his new club and could be worth bringing in given the unlimited transfers. Additionally, Marcel Sabitizer (€6.7m) who scored both the goals against Tottenham can be a threat in the box, and given his value could prove to be a very useful differential. One of the standout performers in the round of 16, Leipzig keeper Peter Gulácsi (€4.4m) kept clean sheets in both the legs and will look to continue his run as an overperforming differential.

Standing in Leipzig’s way is one of Europe’s most robust defenses with Atletico currently riding an 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions. They were typically tough to break down in the Liga and that makes Jan Oblak (€6.0m) their goalkeeper, along with fellow defenders Felipe (€5.1m) and Renan Lodi (€4.3m) tempting from a clean-sheet perspective.

Captaincy Pick

There are few teams you would consider captaining a defender for but Diego Simeone ’s Atletico certainly falls into that bracket. Felipe is the second-highest scoring fantasy defender having being scored one goal, kept four clean sheets , and logged an impressive 51 ball recoveries in the competition to date. If the Brazilian can combine a clean sheet with another attacking return on Thursday, then he will be outscoring plenty of midfielders and forwards.

Friday 14th August

Barcelona VS Bayern

This season’s Champions League represents Barcelona’s last chance for silverware after losing out on the league title. With high stakes and a high flying Bayern Munich insight many managers will be armed with Lionel Messi (€11.5m) in the squads especially after his performance against Napoli . Luis Suarez (€10.0m) could prove to be a differential pick with many not banking on the Uruguayan after his recent dip in performances.

Bayern’s incredible run of form is nothing short of sensational. Hansi Flick ‘s side has won their last 18 games in all competitions, and are fancied by many to go on and win their sixth European Cup. The top scorer in this season’s competition, Robert Lewandowski (€10.9m) , failed to find the net in just one of his last 11 appearances since the restart while Serge Gnabry (€8.3m) has been a popular choice amongst fantasy managers this season.

Captaincy Pick

With 13 Champions League goals to his name this season, it is hard to look past Lewandowski for the standout captaincy choice this matchday. Lewangoalski has already acquired 83 Fantasy points – a staggering 27 more than his nearest competitor in any position. There has simply been no stopping him, whose three goals and four assists across both legs of the round of 16 ties against Chelsea gave him a combined haul of 30 points. His ownership is now over 40% and is set to rise even further given that Fantasy managers are armed with unlimited transfers ahead of the quarter-finals. You can’t simply look past Lewandowski for your captaincy candidate this matchday unless Serge Gnabry could prove to be a useful differential.

Saturday 15th August

Manchester City VS Lyon

City has been in irresistible form over the last two months and expertly navigated their way through a tough round of 16 tie with the likes of Real Madrid . Pep Guardiola has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (€10.3m) , Raheem Sterling (€11.3m), and Gabriel Jesus (€8.4m) all of whom have been racking up goals and assists in the Premier League. Famous for his Pep Roulette, Guardiola generally gives managers a tough time with his tactical team selections, but options such as De Bruyne, Sterling, and Jesus are sure to be nailed on especially after Aguero missing the Champions League due to injury.

On the other hand, Memphis Depay (€8.0m) has enjoyed an excellent UEFA Champions League campaign and picked up where he left off with a goal against Juventus over the weekend so he is the standout Fantasy option from the French side going into their clash with Manchester City.

Captaincy Pick

UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals: Captain Choices: Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling can be an excellent backup captain for UCL Fantasy Quarter Finals

Raheem Sterling is the highest scoring Fantasy midfielder – second only to Lewandowski across all positions. The Englishman was in superb form in the Premier League over the summer, scoring nine goals and registering four assists since the restart. Certainly a valuable back-up captaincy option to have on the last day if any of your previous matchday captains fail to click.

With the climax of the UEFA Champions League approaching for the Grand Finale , so does the UCL Fantasy! With the hassle of team selections and captain choices already proving a nuisance to all the fantasy managers, here we are to ease your worries with our list of UCL Fantasy Injuries and Suspensions list. Besides the UCL fantasy Injuries and Suspensions, we have tried to list the possible substitutions and also list the players who are just one booking away from missing a quarter-final appearance.

Paris Saint-Germain

Tomas Tuchel ‘s men have been unbeaten and prolific in the group stage, losing 2-1 to Dortmund in the first leg of their round of 16 ties only to bounce back with a stylish 2-0 victory in the French capital. Scoring goals is not exactly an issue for the French giants with their semi-final victory over RB Leipzig being more comfortable than Bayern’s over Lyon. Sunday represents a tantalizing opportunity to make themselves the team to beat, though, and if they are finally able to lift their most coveted prize aloft then there could be no doubting that they are worthy champions by beating the best.

UCL Fantasy Injuries and Suspensions: Neymar
It’s Now or Neymar for PSG

PSG will be particularly hopeful of having first-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas back available. The Costa Rican was forced off with a thigh injury against Atalanta and subsequently missed the semi-final, leaving him as a major doubt for this match with Sergio Rico again set to deputize. Layvin Kurzawa and Idrissa Gueye are also fitness doubts for Tuchel’s side, but Marco Verratti did get some minutes towards the end of the semi-final and may earn a place back in the starting XI for the final as a result.

Bayern Munich

Bayern coming back after humiliating Barcelona 8-2 and defeating Lyon 3-0 doesn’t look to take any halt before lifting their sixth European Cup. The German outfit has been simply scintillating en route to the final, plundering an incredible 42 goals during a perfect 10 wins from 10 games in the competition this season.

Lewandowski to break Ronaldo’s record?

Hansi Flick will be hoping to be able to name an unchanged side from the semi-final but could be without Jerome Boateng , who picked up a knock in that match which forced him off at the half time. Flick has options in reserve – namely Niklas Sule , Lucas Hernandez, and Javi Martinez – but he will give Boateng every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of the final. Meanwhile, Flick has confirmed that full-back Benjamin Pavard will be available for selection having now recovered from injury. Pavard has not started a Champions League game since the restart but the Frenchman would be a more defensive option at right-back if Flick opts for caution.
