Here is our exclusive Chelsea vs Manchester United Tactical Review . Manchester United and Chelsea faced each other in a mid-table clash yesterday. Both the teams aren’t much habituated to be in the position they were. It was an important match for both of them to win and better their’s position in the league table. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Both the Premier League sides were happy to settle with a point as many chances were not created on a rainy night at Old Trafford.

The Midfield Battle

Chelsea and Manchester United were engaged in a tactical battle to wrest the control of midfield. The verdict is that United’s midblock proved to be more efficient between the two. The 4-2-3-1 formation of United allowed them to engage more men in the midfield to create an effective mid-block that stopped Chelsea from making advances from the middle of the pitch.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Tactical Review

In the early stages of the game, Manchester United totally cut Chelsea’s center backs from their deep-lying midfielders. United’s positioning in the midfield forced Chelsea to play their way out from the wide. Chelsea, on the other hand, started with a 3-4-3 formation that moved into 5-3-2 in case of a defensive transition. Chelsea used their wide players a lot in both defensive and offensive situations. Despite United’s mid-block Chelsea tried to use long ball to overtake United’s press.

Use of Flanks

One of the defining features of this game was both team’s attempt to create through the flanks. Both United and Chelsea tried to create numeric overload United in defense tried to use the method of 2 vs. 1 in the flanks and tried to stop James and Chilwell to get free space in the flanks to launch crosses into the box. Still, Havertz successfully invaded the half-spaces in the flank for Chelsea, Fred often tracked back to stop him in his advances.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Tactical Review

United also tried to do the same they also tried to overload the flanks, Bruno drop deep and tried to play long balls to the wide players. United used the understanding and link-up play between the wingers and full-backs to create the attacking spark upfront. Chelsea made it tough for United by playing 5 in the back, giving United almost no place in the defense to exploit.

Defensive Solidity

Both sides are often accused of being defensively unstable, last night it was a completely different story as United and Chelsea showed defensive strength against extremely potent defensive action.

Both the teams relied on blocks, Chelsea made a potent low block while United was successful in creating a robust mid-block making it tough for their oppositions to get past them. Both the teams tried to play out from the back and were encountered by the opposition to stop them from doing it.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Tactical Review

United’s front 3 engaged in pressing while the midfield 3 outnumbered the double pivot of Chelsea in the midfield to cut out their passes. Chelsea, on the other hand, left no space in between the lines for United in the back making Bruno look ordinary thus both the teams tried to play a lot of long balls that were of no help.

Stats Corner

United was the more dominating side on the field with an xG of 0.65 compared to Chelsea’s 0.22. This tells us United were the side who attacked their opposition more. The Passes per Defensive Action of 22 and 14 from United and Chelsea respectively proved that despite pressing each other both the team didn’t engage in much tackles or block as they relied more on positioning sense.

Conclusion

As the game drew 0-0, United are still lurking in the bottom half of the league. Cavani ‘s debut gave them a moment of joy in a rather bland evening while Mendy is slowly growing into himself after collecting one more clean sheet for Chelsea. Thiago Silva also looking solid for the Blues. With Champions League football in midweek, it will be interesting to see how both teams deal with the fixtures piled up.

Real Madrid registered a 3-1 victory against their arch-rival FC Barcelona in one of the most prestigious matches of world football, the El Clasico. Unlike the scoresheet, the match was more balanced and was a real treat for football fans all over the world. Both the sides had world-class players who could easily change the fate of the match within a minute or two. Let’s dive into the Barcelona vs Real Madrid tactical review straight away. Ronald Koeman played his first El Clasico as a manager and it was not something he’d want to remember. Zidane, on the other hand, has answered all the questions thrown at him after the consecutive losses against Cadiz and Shaktar.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid Tactical Review: Lineups of both teams

Real Madrid started in a 4-3-3 system. Though without possession it changed to 4-4-2 in Barca half. Either Marco Asensio or Vinicius was staying upfront to cover the central mids of the home side. When Barca was reaching the Real half this formation was shifting to a 5-4-1 with only Benzema staying upfront.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid Tactical Review: Buildup and Transitions

As Barca got more possession in the second half, we will start with how they played with the ball.

Barcelona

With possession, Barca used the left side of the pitch more frequently to attack. Coutinho who started in the left side tucked in centrally making room for Jordi Alba to overlap. Barca in the first half tried to create a 3v2 or a 4v3 advantage in the left side of the pitch. Frankie De Jong also sometimes moved to the left side to operate. Messi played in a free role. He was roaming around in the Real half and connecting with his teammates to escape the press. He sometimes also dropped in the side of Busquets and Frankie to provide longballs for the men upfront. It was through his pass which initiated the move for the only goal of Barcelona. He was mainly trying to operate between the lines for Barcelona. He also moved to the right in some cases to create some space. Though he created some dangerous chances for Barcelona he was kept quiet by Casemiro who did a great job while marking him. He forced Messi to operate from the half-line where he was less effective. Asensio started this match as the man upfront with Benzema. But as Barca was mainly attacking through their left He dropped to support the defence. While defending he moved centrally to guard Coutinho who was trying to combine with Jordi Alba. When Asensio was supporting the defence Valverde moved to the right side of the pitch to fill the gap and neutralise the pressure on that side.

Messi’s clasico drought continues

During the second half, Barca looked more positive with their approach. they started using both of the wings. Both Pedri and Dest started getting more involved in the game. This helped Barca to become more unpredictable as they now using the switchovers to create space on the wings. Dest was excellent in the second half. His skills and creativity was a reason behind Barca’s performance in the second half. This change forced Vinicius to involve more defensively and reduced the threat of his in behind runs. Mendy was great in stopping Barca attacks in the second half. He used his strength and speed to win the ball and initiate counters for Real Madrid.

Dest was sensational in his first Clasico

Real Madrid

Real Madrid also tried to control possession in this match. They build from the back. Tony Kroos dropped in front of their defence to carry the ball. he and Fede Valverde moved the ball from defence to attack. In attack, Benzema played as a false 9. He dropped in between the defence and midfield to linkup the game. His role was similar to Lionel Messi of Barcelona. His linkup game helped both Kroos and Fede to move forward. The forward line of Real Madrid was fluid. they exchanged their positions to create runs. Real used both the wings to operate. But as Mendy was more attacking then Nacho left side was much more active. Vinicius stayed in the wings while Mendy moves centrally almost to the position of striker to create chances for Real Madrid. The first goal came for the linkup play of Benzema. he dropped allowing Fede to move in the space upfront which resulted in a goal.

Valverde got his team to a great start with his 5′ goal

In the start of the second half Real Madrid became more defensive. All of their players stayed in their own half. But they were able to create chances through counterattacks using the pace of Mendy, Vinicius and Fede. This resulted in a penalty which caused the second goal. After the second goal, Zidane introduced Modric to the pitch This helped Madrid to control the tempo of the game and seal the match.

Mendy was super-solid as usual

Conclusion

To conclude our Barcelona vs Real Madrid tactical review, this match was a must-win match for Real Madrid. Their self-confidence was down after back to back losses. Questions were raised against Zidane’s management which was needed to be answered. He answered them all in the most prestigious way by defeating Barcelona in their own castle. After this match, Real Madrid is in the tabletop with 13 points and looking in good shape after a disastrous 7 days.

With the season just ended and the leagues are yet to start football is currently at a halt for the clubs. But not for the fans. They get their fair share of the game as the Uefa Nations League had their second set of games today with two staunch rivals Germany and Spain facing each other. Both the teams have pretty new faces in the lineup, and it is hard to predict the game as always. This is our exclusive Germany vs Spain Tactical Review.

Germany vs Spain Tactical Review: Match Analysis

First half

In the first half, Spain started with a 4-3-3 system . As they have more possession we will discuss what they do with possession first. Luis Enrique started the game as usual. He opted for the idea of keeping possession and attack using short passing . But this gameplay hampered with the German press. Germany pressed high with two of their forwards pressing the center-backs. The defensive midfielder is marked by Julien Draxler . This hampers the buildup play in Spain. The only option was to go wide. As we can see below most of the Spain attacks came from the wings.

Both the fullbacks are overlapping one at a time helping the wingers to cut inside. These attacks though created some chances but were not as venomous as the buildup through the center. Two creative midfielders Thiago Alacantara and Fabian Ruiz also suffocated due to lack of balls. Draxler has done a great job here. He man-marked Busquets and forced buildup to go wide. Seeing that Enrique tweaked a little bit. He pushed Busquets up and Ruiz dropped to collect the ball. The main idea is to constrict Draxler in his own half.

Concentration of Play: Spain

But this boomeranged. Without Busquets, the mid-block was missing and Tony Kroos and İlkay Gündoğan got lots of space in mid to play through balls for Timo Werner and Leroy Sane . This opened up space in Spain’s defense. Draxler also got lots of space along with the left wingback who often pushed up and created trouble for Spain. His direct gameplay created so many chances but Werner couldn’t make his runs right. If he can the scoreline can came different.

Germany, on the other hand, used the 3-5-2 formation . Emre Can starts in the three-man backline. Germany mainly focused on capturing second balls from Spain attack and used them to counter. They used their left wingback to provide a width and balance Sane who started as a wide forward and often used the space of full-backs left to attack. Germany was very successful in its counter-attacking tactics.

Second Half

At the end of the first half and beginning of the second Spain started to push men forward. They pressed high and stopped the German direct balls through midfield.

During the start of the second half, young starlet Ansu Fati came in to play in place of Jesus Navas and after some time Mikel Moreno came in place of Busquets. This eased the build-up for Spain as Moreno is comfortable with pushing upfront. Again with Fati was placed they got a 3v3 against the Getman defenders which made it hard for them to press.

Concentration of Play: Germany

Fati started in the left-wing and Ferran Torres moved to the right. This also helped as the defenders were now under confusion whether they will cross or cut in. This eased the wing play and showed what Ferran was really capable of. And with the first goal, Germany also loosened the press. They put in Matthias Ginter in place of Leroy Sane making it 5-4-1 shape . This gave Spain midfielders and defenders time and space and they looked more dangerous.

Germany midfield was stretched out by Spain midfielder and they dominated the opposition area in the second half. Rodrigo was very wasteful so they took so long to equate. Both the team got their chances in either of the halves to seal the match but neither of them took the chance and the score of 1-1 seemed justified.

Final Thoughts

This match of Uefa Nations League was played between two seasons. Neither of the players was able to rest for more than 15 days. So it will be hard to expect top-notch performance from them. Still what they delivered, was commendable. Both the managers still have works to do regarding their side, but both of these sides have the potential to win this tournament.

After all the difficulties due to worldwide pandemic situation, finally the UEFA Champion’s League has come to an end where Bayern wins the Champions League 2020, defeating Paris Saint Germain 1-0 in the final. The final match was the perfect ending of the league, where the performances of both the team was neck to neck. Let’s dive.

Bayern Munich wins the Champions League 2019/20
Bayern wins the Champions League 2020

Bayern wins the Champions League 2020: Preview

Bayern Munich faced PSG in UCL final on Sunday. After a long time, neither any Spanish nor English team was in the finals of the competition. It was a chance for both the teams to add a star in their crown. PSG had this golden opportunity to win the title for the first time while Bayern wanted to increase their count to six. The stage was set for a great battle where two managers Hans Dieter Flick and Thomas Tuchel will look to outclass each other.

Bayern wins the Champions League 2020: First Half

In the first half, Bayern started with the tempo. They were controlling possession and maintaining a high line. They started with a 4-2-3-1 shape which became 4-3-3 with possession.

PSG on the other hand started with a 4-3-3. Their main onus is to get behind Bayern’s half-line with their speedy wingers. The first half was a stalemate with both the team sharing the fare amount of chances.

Bayern tried to attack through the wings where they tried to create an overload of 3v2. Their fullbacks and wingers are supported by the occasional movement of central midfielders towards the wing. Muller played a free role in zone 14. He tried to make runs through the gaps of defence and connect with the wings.

PSG started on a 4-3-3 shape. But it shifted to an asymmetric 3-5-2 on transition. Neymar shifted to the playmaker position while Mbappe and De Maria operated in wings. They allowed Bayern to attack and tried to catch them on break. They were mainly dependent on long balls and through balls to attack the opponent and they were successful to create some chances.

Bayern wins the Champions League 2020: Second Half

The second half started with the same tempo. Bayern got more space and time on the ball and they were pressing heavily when they lost possession. They were moving like a whole unit. When the ball was in the opposite unit Koeman was moving in the centre to create space for a possible switchover. They were also rotating the ball continuously to tire PSG players and create an opening.

The first and only goal for Bayern came from a lack of concentration from PSG players. Kimmich got a loose ball near the 20 yards box. He clips it near the 6-yard box where Coman was waiting to pounce. After the goal, PSG started to get the rhythm back. They created some chances but they were very wasteful and they could not capitalize on Bayern’s mistake. Bayern also started making the game slow. They started making tactical fouls to stop.PSG attack. And in the end, they became winners.

Bayern wins the Champions League 2020: Tactical Breakdown

Bayern mainly builds up from the back. Their fullbacks are the main source of the attack. Boateng is an outstanding ballplayer. He takes the job of distributing the balls. They maintained a high backline to cover the space between attack and defence. Alcantara and Goretzka carried the ball through the PSG press. When Bayern mids we’re getting the ball two of their wingers are moving inside and Lewandowski was also dropping down in the attacking mid position. This was providing them with a 4v3 advantage in midfield and the midfielders we’re getting time and space on the ball.

The fullbacks we’re also pushing high up and as neither of the PSG wingers was contributing much in the defence to it was 1v1 in the wings. PSG backline was also staying low so their midfielders were getting engaged with Bayern frontline. This gave Bayern midfielders ample time and space and they controlled the whole game.

Bayern wins the Champions League 2020: Winner

Muller was playing in the free role. He connected the whole game and exploited pockets of space in PSG defence. But this shape also made Bayern vulnerable. As the fullbacks were pressing high so PSG forwards got 3v2 advantage against Bayern’s defence. They used combinational plays and off the ball runs to open the defence. Mbappe used his pace to get behind Bayern central defenders and this created some chances for PSG.

But PSG can’t defend against Bayern’s high press. Two of the Bayern wingers along with Lewandowski pressed PSG backs. So Navas had to go wide. When he played the ball to the fullbacks Muller along with the central midfielder of that side pressed the fullback. The rest of the team also blocked the central path leaving no option for the fullback to pass centrally. This limited the passing options and PSG often gets dispossessed in the wide areas.

Bayern wins the Champions League 2020: Final Verdict

This match was a UCL final in true sense. Both the team’s desperation was clear with their game style. They played an attractive brand of football which was wanted by millions of football fans. Bayern was the better team between two and they were worthy to win UCL this season for the 6th time.

It was Manchester City vs Liverpool which ended in a total debacle for the newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool FC. After honouring the Liverpool players for the Premier League with a guard of honour, We will look into how Pep Guardiola completed such a victory against Klopp’s team which has by far smashed almost every big team on their way. We will dig into our Manchester City vs Liverpool Tactical Analysis to know more about this fixture at Etihad stadium.

Manchester City giving Liverpool the Guard of Honor.

It was a high voltage affair at Etihad as Manchester City was facing newly crowned English Champions Liverpool. The focal point before the match was City giving a guard of honour to Liverpool, congratulating them about their Premier League victory. The proceedings of the match began with the much-awaited guard of honour as Liverpool players entered the pitch. But this can be marked as the only positive for Liverpool the whole day.

The Beginning of the Match: Liverpool dominating the proceedings

In our Manchester City vs Liverpool tactical analysis, let’s see how the teams formed up during the match. Liverpool began with a starting formation of 4-3-3, City also had a starting formation of 4-3-3 with Phil Foden at right wing for City. As the match proceeded, it was clear that City was playing in a 4-4-2 formation with De Bruyne dropping just below Jesus up front and the two City wingers moving into the wide midfield. Liverpool started the match on the high with the front three pressing the City backline heavily.

City’s Starting Line Up
Liverpool’s Starting Line Up

The City backline moved toward the extreme sides of the box to allow the fullbacks to stay forward. As a result, there was a gap in the middle for the Liverpool front 3 as they pressed narrowly from the beginning to cut the wide passes out.

City’s formational transition during the game.

To counter that Gundogan dropped into the centre back position to give the numerical superiority to City and also, on the other hand, providing a passing option. As a result, Gundogan tried to play the ball out wide but Liverpool countered that with Henderson, Wijnaldum and one of the fullbacks pressing the Manchester City defence high in the vulnerable zone with high intensity. As a result, Liverpool were able to get hold of loose balls in the final third of City, but couldn’t do much of it due to their poor finishing.

Liverpool adjusting to a shape to fight City’s possession play.

Liverpool on the other hand when playing out from the back took a 3-4-3 shape, Fabinho dropped at back to become the third centre-back. Robertson and Trent moved forward with Henderson and Wijnaldum to join the midfield press. Firmino dropped deep to engage in a duel with Rodri and the two wing forwards Salah and Mane making runs inside the channel to make the most of the long balls sent from the backline of their team.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Tactical Analysis: How did it unwind

Let’s look deep into how the match unfolded in our Manchester City vs Liverpool Tactical Analysis. Though both the sides started with the 4-3-3 formation, City quickly changed their shape as the match unfolded by taking a 4-4-2 shape. De Bruyne as a second striker didn’t have to drop deep unlike the Chelsea match. He was fed the balls by players like Rodri and Gundogan. His main duty was to run against Liverpool backline. As a result, De Bruyne was pretty much dealing with the attacking rather than participating in the midfield press.

The Saga of Long Balls

In our Manchester City vs Liverpool tactical analysis, we can talk about both Liverpool and Manchester City playing with a high backline, it was pretty obvious in their attacking transition that both the team tried to play out long balls directing to their forwards. Liverpool especially played a lot of long balls targeting Mane. Van Dijk, Trent, Gomez and Fabinho took the onus of supplying long balls to Mane.

The plan was to aim the long balls to Mane who would receive the ball and with his blistering pace cut inside and play a combination with his other two frontline players and find a chance in front of the goal. The plan was near almost executed perfectly by the backline but Mane somehow couldn’t make much of it. Salah hit the bar from such a chance.

City also adopted this strategy at the beginning but with two tall center backs in the Liverpool ranks. City shifted from that strategy.

Breaking the Liverpool Press: City’s domination begins

City, as the match proceeded, grew in confidence. With Liverpool playing with high pressing and high backline it leaves a lot of place for the City in the midfield. As Jesus started to drop just in the space in the midfield, by giving him the ball and with him running at Liverpool defence it becomes a 4 vs 3 situations as City players were running straight at Liverpool backline.

As Liverpool midfield along with central defensive midfielder Fabinho also pressing high there is a lot of space in between the Liverpool backline and midfield. City forwards Foden, Sterling, Jesus and De Bruyne made most of that. With a between the line pass from the backline, City were ready to go and haunt the Liverpool backline.

We see this clearly in Sterling’s goal with a pass from Mendy to Gundogan there was no ball sided Liverpool midfielders as all were pressing high as a result it was an easy pass to Jesus than to Foden with Sterling in a free position on the left it was easy for him to get hold of the ball and convert it easily.

Sloppy Gomez and vulnerable right side for Liverpool

Gomez had a bad day in the office. He was not only the reason behind City’s penalty after fouling Sterling inside the box. He made a lot of unnecessary errors in the back.

With him and Trent found in out of position situation Sterling and the rest of City forwards made a lot of inroads into the Liverpool defence from the right side of the pitch. Mendy and De Bruyne made some lethal deliveries into the box from the right but they couldn’t make the most of it.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Tactical Analysis
Gomez had a bad day at office.

Kevin De Bruyne Masterclass

One player we have to talk about in our Manchester City vs Liverpool tactical analysis is Kevin De Bruyne , he was the go-to man for City. He was playing mostly as the second striker but his role becomes much more important in the Liverpool half he was easily finding half-spaces. As he was playing and moving centrally we see from both the sides Mendy and Walker overlapped quite a lot. As a result, there was a lot of space for him to operate in the centre.

City midfielders Rodri and Gundogan were trying a lot to play the between the line pass targeting Kevin who creates havoc with his through balls in the Liverpool defence. In case of counter-attacks, De Bruyne was the main player whom the others passed to as it was easy for him, finding the half-spaces he played the ball onto the free players in space to the wide due to the high backline and pressing Liverpool defence was often cut off from the midfield leaving a lot of space to be exploited in the wings.

In case of Foden’s goal and Chamberlain’s own goal we precisely see these spaces being exploited by the City players. De Bruyne registered a goal and an assist which was crucial for this match.

De Bruyne Masterclass vs Liverpool

Stats tells the Story

Liverpool played with Passes Allowed Per Defensive Action ( PPDA ) of 15 which was very high from their point of view. This proved the lack of intensity in Liverpool’s pressing during the 90 minutes duration. This made the things a lot easy for City to dominate the midfield.

xG for City was 2.86 compared to Liverpool’s 0.86 making it a well-deserved victory for Manchester City. Though this Liverpool side is already a champion, this can be a wake-up call for them before the next season. City will get a much-needed boost before meeting Real Madrid in the UCL Round of 16 match in August. That’s all for today in our Manchester City vs Liverpool Tactical Analysis.

Summary

The match witnessed some of the controversial referee decisions. Penalty decision for both the teams seemed to be a little harsh. But keeping those aside, Barca never showed much intent to win the game. They seemed to be clueless and relied on personal brilliance. The players’ relationship with their manager might have an impact on their performance.

Riqui Puig had an excellent game. He provided the creativity and always showed intent to chase the opponents and created pressure up the field. He could be really special in the long run for the Catalans. Messi got some chances in the first half but looked reckless in finishing.

Disappointing Barcelona dropped 2 more points.

Barcelona pressed high which did cost them a lot. As Atletico Madrid was excellent on counters. Carrasco, Costa, Llorente hit Barcelona defence time and time again. Diego Costa’s deflection from a Messi corner opened the scoring for Barca in the 11th minute of the game. But the lead didn’t last long.

Atletico was awarded a penalty as Carrasco was brought down inside the box by Vidal . Though the penalty saved by Ter Stegen but VAR showed that he was out of the goal line when Costa took the penalty. Saul took the penalty again and it was 1-1 for Atletico in just 19th minutes of the game. Though after this drama Barca created some chances but without 1 or 2 players it seemed that no one was giving their extra bit which was needed to win this match. Atletico played better football as they continued to hit Barca on transitions.

Messi converting the spot-kick to bring up 700 career goals.

There was more and more drama in the second half. With the commencement of second-half, Barca was awarded a controversial penalty. Semedo was fouled by Felipe inside the box, though the contact seemed to be very minimal. Messi scored the penalty to reach 700 career goals . The home team was ahead in the game for some time.

A controversial decision led to a penalty for Atletico Madrid . Both Carrasco and Semedo was involved this time as the former was clipped by the fullback to loose his control over the ball inside the area. It seemed that Carrasco tripped on his own but referee Alejandro Hernandez had other ideas. Saul Niguez again took a perfect shot to make it 2-2. Setien’s late substitutions provided little sense. Fati and Griezmann had merely time to make some impact on the game as both of them came on the field after 80 minutes.

Man of the match

Saul Niguez was awarded the Man of the Match award for his two spot-kick goals and a decent performance throughout the match.

Final Thoughts

Barcelona was lucky enough to get 1 point from this game. As per Atletico Madrid’s concern, they missed a golden opportunity to defeat Barca in Camp Nou since 2008. For Real Madrid, this was the best result possible as they moved one step forward to lift the title. Now they just have to concentrate on their final 6 games only. If Los Blancos loses any points from now on, It will be a chance for Barcelona to climb back on the La Liga 2019-20 table.

Match Summary

Let’s look at how the match went in our Espanyol vs Real Madrid Match Review. This match was a crucial match for both the teams. Real Madrid wanted to take this opportunity to move up to the top of the table back once again, gaining full advantage of Barca’s points slip up. On the other hand, Espanyol who sat at the bottom of the table needed the three points for hoping to avoid relegation. The match wasn’t easy for Espanyol, as this was the first match of Abelardo Fernández as the head coach of the team after the Barcelona based side changed their coach in this season for the 3rd time. Isco was the surprise inclusion in Real’s XI, as Zidane left out in-form Vinicius Jr .

The hosts started brightly and tried to unsettle the Real defence. Chinese winger Wu Lei tried to get the advantage of Marcelo’s defensive shakiness, but it’s his decision making in the final third that let him down. The first chance of the game for Real came rather unexpectedly, as a Casemiro shot from distance forced Diego Lopez at full stretch. The first big chance of the game came at 10 minutes when Ramos missed the goal with a header from 2 or 3 yards. The next chance arrived almost immediately for Real as Casemiro missed a similar header from a corner.

Espanyol’s Chinese striker Wu Lei caused Real all sorts of problem with his devastating pace thereafter, where he missed one chance and shot just over the bar on the 23rd minute. It was probably Espanyol’s best spell all game, where they troubled the Madrid defence mainly through Wu Lei’s pace.

Benzema forced an excellent save from Diego Lopez on the other end, after combining with Hazard and Marcelo for the build-up in the left side of the pitch. Real started looking dangerous, as they forced 3 saves from Diego Lopez within a few seconds. The former Real man did a brilliant job at keeping his team level, but not for much long.

The only goal of the match came through the boots of Casemiro , just on the brink of half-time. Marcelo floated a ball towards the box, which was then headed towards Benzema by Ramos, and the Frenchman did an excellent job by backheeling it to Casemiro who slotted it home. The build-up was absolutely fantastic from the eventual table toppers.

Real’s post on twitter after Casemiro’s goal

The second half was much more flat, with very less chances to talk of. Espanyol was let down by their performance in the final third once again, where Wu Lei couldn’t put power on a shot at goal from inside the box. The first chance of the half for the visitors came from none other than Benzema, who controlled the ball beautifully and forced a near post save from Diego Lopez from an almost impossible angle.

Zidane then looked to inject some pace in the game as he introduced the young Brazilian pair of Vinicius & Rodrgygo, taking off Isco and Hazard, and switching to a 4-3-3. On the 65th minute, a chance came for Espanyol when Raul De Tomas, former Real man, troubled Courtois from a long-distance free-kick which was curling away from the Belgian.

There were not many more chances in the second half after that, as it looked like Real put more the focus on passing the ball around and keeping their defensive shape rather than going for the 2nd goal at the R.C.D.E. Stadium. Vinicius and Rodrygo tracked back, with only Benzema left forward. A late, late chance arrived for Espanyol to snatch a draw out of a loss as Marc Roca curled a free-kick into the box, but no Espanyol player could head it towards goal. Referee Mateu Lahoz blew the final whistle as the match ended with a not-so-convincing win for Real Madrid, but they got the job done.

Final thoughts

Real Madrid’s performance was not as convincing as their previous matches, however, they got their job done and now sit 2 points clear of Barca at the top of La Liga. For Espanyol, once again they failed to take their chances in front of goal, and it looks more and more evident now that they Catalunyan side will be relegated this season from La Liga. That’s it from today’s Espanyol vs Real Madrid Match Review.

Summary: Real Madrid vs Mallorca match review

This match was a do or die match for both the teams. Real Madrid wanted to win the match to move up to the top of the table. On the other hand, Mallorca needed the three points to avoid relegation. So the intensity of the match was high from the start. The Real defence was expected to be a bit shaky with the absence of Casemiro . Mallorca wanted to take its full advantage by deploying Kubo as no 10. He was excellent throughout the match.

Real Madrid started the match in an attacking mood. Benzema forced a save from Reina just in the 7th minute of the game. The following shot from Bale was also saved. Mallorca didn’t look to sit back in the defence. They also started moving the ball upfront. Baba fired a shot from outside the box which was saved full stretch by Courtois. But with time Madrid started taking control of the game. They also got their first goal in this time period. Modric played a through ball for Vinicius who made an excellent run to pick the pass and floated it over goalkeeper’s head.

The ball mainly moved in Mallorca half as Madrid started moving forward in numbers. Vinicius had a good game. His runs through the left-wing were causing troubles for Mallorca defenders. Just after a few minutes of the first goal, another Vinicius shot was denied by the crossbar. Kubo, the Madrid loanee tried to create some attacks for Mallorca but lacked support. The first half ended in a 1-0 scoreline for Madrid. Mallorca couldn’t create effective chances in the first half and they were forced to play through the wings by Madrid midfielders. Madrid started the 2nd half with the same tempo. Raillo caused a handball just outside the penalty box. Captain Sergio Ramos stepped up to take the set-piece. He delivered a beautiful free-kick which resulted in the second goal for Madrid.

After the second goal, Mallorca looked to increase the attacking intensity. Gamez was substituted in place of Valjient. Budimir who hadn’t shown much of the attacking promise was also called for Juan Hernandez. Salva Sevilla also came in place of Alix Febas to increase the midfield creativity.

Madrid also put Kroos in place of Hazard and looked to transform in a 4-3-3 . Mallorca also showed some signs of a comeback as they were creating attacks through the center of the park. Moreno brought Salibur in place of Lago to increase the attacking play. Asensio and Isco came in for Madrid in place of Modric and Bale to increase the grip of the midfield.

Mallorca now started to go all out. They were creating chances but failed to convert in the final third. Madrid started to defend in numbers and hit Mallorca in counters with the pace of Vinicius. Mariano and Brahim also got a chance for Madrid in place of Benzema and Vinicius. Mallorca created history in this match as Luka Moreno became the youngest player to play a La Liga match . The 15-year-old Argentine was brought in place of Baba. Mallorca created some chances in the dying minutes but failed to score a goal. It was Madrid who came out victorious through a 2-0 win

Final thoughts

With this win, Madrid climbed up to the top of La Liga. Mallorca on the other hand is currently in the 18th place and threatening relegation. This win made the La Liga title race more exciting as Barca need to win against Celta Vigo to chase Real Madrid. That’s all about the Real Madrid vs Mallorca match review.

Overview

Coming back to today’s match. Liverpool showed their intent from the very beginning of the game. Compared to the lacklustre performance against Everton, Liverpool meant business from the starting whistle.

From the beginning Palace went all defensive with a 4-5-1 formation, Hennessey got a Premier League appearance after a long time as Guaita was injured, it proved to be a hard time for him on the pitch. With Cahill and Sakho at the back, they tried to defend as much as possible. Liverpool came very close to scoring the first goal as Wijnaldum failed to convert the chance presented to him by a Townsend miss-kick inside the box. Mane looked the dangerous man on the left giving passes to Wijnaldum and Robertson in small packets of spaces.

Crystal Palace got a big setback after Zaha left the field just after 11 minutes after sustaining an injury. Meyer replaced Zaha. In the 20th minute, Ayew made a costly error by fouling Van Dijk just in front of the box from a very advantageous position. Trent Alexander Arnold, the Souse boy in the team made the most of it, scoring an excellent goal from the free-kick with an inswinging curler in the right corner. This was Liverpool’s first goal after the lockdown break.

Sublime Stuff!

Palace became more defensive after that, barring few attempts of playing long balls which failed miserably and attempts of playing out the ball wide also become unsuccessful due to the pacy fullbacks of the Reds, Fabinho was sweeping the deeper midfield areas with his defensive skills.
Fabinho then on the verge of 42nd minute with his line-breaking long ball found Salah who marked his return with a goal from that excellent pass. Salah showed the composure while finishing with chesting down the ball and scoring the goal with precision. Fabinho’s pass was also praiseworthy. Except for Meyer’s shot in the 41st minute, Palace did not have enough threat.

2nd half followed the same script from the first half, Salah failed to convert the cross from Robertson when Sakho misjudged the ball. Robertson came close to scoring in the 53rd minute with a shot from the range. Just a minute later, Fabinho scored a world-class goal from almost 30 metres wide with a banger that disturbed the net’s right top corner.

‘What a hit son, What a hit!’

Fabinho and Henderson was great throughout the match as they maintained the pressing intensity which hampered Palace’s hopes of building from the back. Gini missed out an easy chance from Mane’s pass as he hit straight to the keeper. Liverpool caught Palace in the 68th minute as Firmino finds Salah in the break who made an exquisite pass to Mane who was making his run. Mane calmly finished the opportunity by putting the ball into the right bottom corner with ease. Meanwhile, Oxlade Chamberlain substituted Henderson.

On the 73rd minute Trent and Firmino were substituted with Neco Williams and Minamino making their entries. The Liverpool side shifted to a 4-4-2 formation with Mane and Salah up-front. Mane and Robertson were also taken off in the 81st minute for Harvey Elliot and Naby Keita.
Williams looked lively during his time on the pitch, he made a splitting pass to Salah who cut in and tried to pass the ball to Minamino for a tap in but Hennessey came on their way. Eagles substitute Milivojevic, Riedwald and Pierick couldn’t make much of a difference with them playing so deep and hardly making any forward-thinking move.

Allison didn’t make a single save throughout the game with Palace not making any penalty box touches.

With Atkinson’s final whistle match came to an end with Alisson no need to make a single save throughout the match, signalling towards the emphatic way Liverpool won this match. Liverpool are now 23 points ahead of City with playing a match extra. Now all the Reds will look at today’s match between City and Chelsea. Will Liverpool’s 30 years wait comes to an end tonight? We do have to wait till the City game.

Summary: Tottenham vs West Ham Match Review

Though Tottenham won the match with a comfortable margin of 2-0, it was impossible to conclude that Tottenham still have so much more to offer as an attacking force. Jose Mourinho talked about all six attackers being available after long. The game was an even contest in the first half as West Ham kept a solid and strong defensive shape.

Mourinho’s men struggled in the attacking third throughout the match but clinched a lucky opening goal. Kane who had returned from a two and a half months of hamstring injury against Man United scored the decisive goal on Tuesday night(his 200th appearance for Spurs).

The visitors were playing better in the first half and created a good chance as Hugo Lloris blocked Antonio’s angled shot with his shins, before Eric Dier repelled Bowen’s follow-up. A few minutes later, Moura’s long ranger forced Fabianski to make a fingertip save. Followed by Moura’s attempt towards West Ham goal, Harry Kane launched a fierce shot and a wide header as Tottenham tried to get a foothold.

At the very end of the first half Son glided the ball inside the West Ham goal but his celebrations didn’t last long as the goal was ruled out by VAR as he was marked offside. In the stoppage time, Lucas Moura missed a great opportunity to go ahead at the break as he struck the ball woefully wide off the goal.

Son scored but the goal was ruled out by offside.

Tottenham started the 2nd half with a bit more urgency to score a goal. Tottenham scored their first goal when a corner was swung over in the 64th minute, when the ball appeared to brush the arm of Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez before bouncing off Soucek’s leg and spinning past helpless keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

“I’ve only just seen it, and I can’t believe they’ve ruled that as a goal. Any handball is disallowed? That’s the rule. Who is on VAR tonight? Not very good eh?”

David Moyes at the end of the match on the first goal.

Pablo Fornals spurned the best chance of the night for West Ham chance, scuffing Bowen’s cut-back. Then Harry Kane sealed the match for Spurs with a cool and composed finish breaking on to Son Heung-min’s pass. The good news for Mourinho, however, is that any team will have a chance when they can call upon a finisher of Kane’s class.

With this win, Tottenham keeps the pressure on Manchester United and Wolves with 47 points from 31 matches. They are trying to secure top 4 as of now. Meanwhile, West Ham remain outside the bottom three, only on goal difference having suffered successive defeats since the season restart.
