The End of an Era: David Silva will leave Manchester City after 10 years at the club
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

One of the greatest midfielders in the club’s history, David Silva will leave Manchester City this summer after the club’s Champions League campaign, confirmed the player. David Silva will play his final Premier League game against Norwich City on Sunday. David Silva is a very big name for the citizens as he is serving the club for 10 long years with passion and glory. The news that David Silva will leave Manchester City came from him earlier in the season which made him emotional.

“When you are young you don’t dream about all of this. You dream about becoming a footballer, a professional footballer, you dream of playing in the top flight. But you never think about all the things that you could achieve. Even more so now when I look back at everything I have achieved I could never have imagined it, even in my wildest dreams.

I’m going to miss them a lot because we have been together for so many years – also the people who work here at the club who have made everything so easy. They are always there for me for everything I need every day. They have shown me so much respect – and respect is the most important thing for me. They have shown me and my family respect wherever we go and then on the pitch too.

I am very grateful for all of this. I just want to say thank you to all the supporters, to the club, to the workers here at the club because they have made my life much easier and I am grateful for that. I am blue-blue forever.”

David Silva on his City career

David Silva is one of the most versatile players of this generation. He mainly played as a central attacking midfielder as well as a central midfielder. David Silva is a creative player and an exponent of the genre of the beautiful game. Silva can control the whole midfield with his vision of passing and physicality too. He is also a player having world-class finishing. He is also good in set pieces and can perform defensive duties quite well. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also expressed his thoughts and strongly considers Silva as one of the greatest midfielders of all time.

“What he has done is incredible, fantastic. Not just for today, for the last 10 years. What we want is for the people to come back to the Etihad for a game for him as one of the legends of the Club. In the small spaces, he is maybe the best I have seen. If he decided to, he could play anywhere. There’s no doubt about that. As I say, the way he works in the pockets is incredible. The young players learn from David by example, not by the words. He’s someone who doesn’t talk much, but he leads by example in the training sessions. He is such a competitor”

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager

David Silva: Career at a glance before joining Manchester City

David Silva had started his career in Spanish club Valencia‘s academy. He spent 3 years and finally got a chance to make a debut in the senior team. But Valencia sent him to Spanish teams like Eibar or Celta Vigo for subsequent one-year loan deals. He played quite well in Vigo’s colour by appearing in 34 matches for them and scoring 4 goals. He mainly played as a central midfielder.

After his performance that season, He finally got the chance to play for Valencia and stayed there for 4 years where he played with his talent and precision. He mainly played as a central attacking midfielder who was vital in Valencia’s success. He played 166 matches for the club and netted 31 times and provided 33 assists in his tenure at the club. He won his first major trophy in club football the Spanish Cup in 2007/08 season. His tremendous performance helped him to make his entrance into the “golden” Spain team and attracted offers from many big clubs.

David Silva will leave Manchester City: A true City legend

David Silva joined Man City at the season 2010/11 from Valencia for about £25.88 million. In his debut season for the blues, He has played 54 matches and provided 13 assists and scored 6 goals. City lost the league title to Manchester United but won the FA Cup in that season which was the first silverware he won in City colours.

2011/12 season is always an unforgettable memory for every one of City as they have managed to win their first-ever premier league title by beating Former champion Manchester United by a 1goal difference. David Silva also secured his first-ever major league title of his football career and played phenomenal that season. Silva provided the most league assist(17) that season. He played 49 matches that season and scored 8goals too and provided 21 assists overall. Former Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini played David silva as a winger too and told also that Silva is a player who can do anything on that pitch.

“Silva is a top, top player. I don’t know why he didn’t go to Barça or Real Madrid because he’s Spanish but we are lucky because he’s here. If he had gone to Barça two years ago everyone would say he’s one of the best players in the world – and he is one of the best players in the world. He’s different from [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo because they are strikers and score a lot of goals but I think he’s the same as Xavi and [Andrés] Iniesta.”

Roberto Mancini, on David Silva

David Silva never looked back since then as He won another 3 league titles and a FA Cup and many other trophies for Manchester City. He is a player who has lacked haters. He can amaze the opponents too with his beautiful football and great gestures. He is a sportsman to watch. Silva played 433 matches for Man city, scored 77 times and provided 140 assists. Even though David Silva will leave Manchester City, He would not ever leave the hearts of City fans.

As Man City manager Pep Guardiola mentioned before Silva is a person who can be followed, who is a leader, who is a man having a wonderful vision of the game, a player who can be an inspiration for many young players. David Silva’s current team-mate and one of the best players in the world, Kevin De Bruyne has actually explained every point of his boss speaks about the legend.

“I came here and obviously we played a little bit similar positions, so it seemed a bit like it was a battle, but I think in the five years that we have been here we have played really well together. He helped me with certain aspects of my game to be better, just from watching him in training and in the games. I learned a lot of stuff and from playing next to him all the time we have done some great things and won a lot together.

His career in England has been impeccable and I think he is one of the best guys in the Premier League that have come from the outside of England. That says it all. David is unbelievable.”

He was also included twice in PFA team of the year. As David Silva will leave Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola did not forget to pay tribute to the legend ahead of his last premier league game for the citizens.

“The number of games, the huge quality in the games he played, the titles he helped win…he’s alongside five or six others who made this Club what it is now and this club will always be grateful. David is extraordinary.”
