With the new Premier League season just around the corner, Fantasy Premier League managers will now be thinking of building their initial Fantasy Squad. The roster of players to choose from is huge, but with the 100 million budget, you will need to make your choices carefully. Amongst the roster, there are some individuals that have proved their capabilities in the previous seasons with stellar performances. This is a list of those players, it is a good idea to have a few of these as your marquee signings as your initial FPL players in your 2020-21 squads ahead of the FPL Gameweek 10.
The Watchlist is back to identify more players who caught the eye based on recent performances and upcoming fixtures. Here are five transfer targets to look for fantasy squads for FPL Gameweek 10 and beyond.
Kevin De Bruyne (Midfielder) 11.6 million
De Bruyne looked frustrated to come away empty-handed against Tottenham having taken 6 shots and attempted 3 assists. His 9 touches in the oppositions’ box could only be beaten by Gabriel Jesus amongst players from either side with 10 for the Brazilian. The Belgium international is yet to score since game week one and has amassed just 2 assists since then, averaging 2.7 points per game across his last six outings. But his 21 shots during that period ranks joint top amongst FPL Midfielders level with Salah and Bruno Fernandes . He ranks fourth for attempted assists while only Harry Kane , Lucas Digne, Bruno Fernandes, and Jack Grealish have created more big chances than his 4. Manchester City has been unusually quiet in front of the goal this season netting just 10 times across their opening eight matches. After the same number of games last season, they scored a league-best 27 goals and had fashioned 37 big chances compared to their current total of just 16 , but their generous upcoming schedule can help them get back on track.
Andrew Robertson (Defender) 7.1 million
Robertson earned his fourth attacking return of the season as Liverpool outclassed Leicester in a 3-0 win. The left-back has contributed 11 attempted assists in the last six game weeks with only Aaron Cresswell and Joao Cancelo producing more amongst defenders. He ranks top amongst players in his position with 22 touches in the opposition’s box, beating Ben Chilwell and Tariq Lamptey . Liverpool has conceded just 3 goals over the last four matches with only Manchester United, Tottenham , and Chelsea being more frugal. Only Wolves , Chelsea , and both the Manchester clubs have allowed opponents fewer shots. Their game week 10 opponent, Brighton has scored four goals over the same period and only Burnely, Sheffield United , and Newcastle have taken fewer shots. The Reds face Wolves and Fulham next, two teams who have been struggling hard to keep up with consistent performances.
Jamie Vardy (Forward) 10.2 million
Liverpool restricted Jaime Vardy to 2 shots in their comfortable 3-0 win but only Firmino and Sadio Mane took more than his 6 touches in the opposition’s box during the match. The 33-year-old missed a big chance at Anfield and now has had a total of 7 big chances in the last four game weeks, with only Bamford being afforded more with 8. The Leeds forward is also the only player able to Vardy’s 8 shots on target in that time, taking 9. Leicester City enjoys a fixture swing from game week 10 with three very favorable matches back to back. They first host Fulham a side that has shipped 18 goals this season with only West Brom equalling that tally. The Baggies have been the only side to concede more big chances than Fulham. Meetings with Sheffield United and Brighton then follow with them each conceding 15 goals with only five teams faring worse.
Raheem Sterling (Midfielder) 11.5 million
Raheem Sterling was named on the bench or the defeat to Tottenham Spurs having complained of a minor calf problem over the international break. The Englishman struggled to make much of an impact during his 18-minute cameo completing just 4 passes in the final third and firing just 1 attempted goal . As you would expect the lack of goals and quality chances for Manchester City as a whole has seen a decline in Sterling’s returns this season, compared to last. After eight matches last season, he had netted 6 goals compared to his current total of just 2 and he had averaged 6.8 points per game compared to just 4.3. In matches against the bottom six teams last season, he averaged 9.3 points per game but will the improvement in fixtures as well as the return of a certain Sergio Aguero help Sterling recapture the form he has shown in previous seasons. Man City faces Burnley , Fulham, West Brom , and Newcastle in their next four home matches. Thus after their defeat to Tottenham, two City players might come as a shock but their upcoming fixtures are really tempting.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Forward) 7.9 million
Calvert-Lewin has been involved in 80% of his team’s goals in the last four game weeks, where he has averaged 6.8 points per game. The 23-year-old has landed 5 shots on target over that period behind only Jaime Vardy and Bamford amongst FPL forwards. He ranks joint sixth for big chances and joint seventh for shots in the box. Everton has scored 5 goals over the last four game weeks, creating 5 big chances and landing 14 shots on target . Their next opponent Leeds has conceded 8 goals over the same period with only Aston Villa and Everton themselves have been more porous. They allowed opponents 12 big chances with only Sheffield United faring worse.
