With the new Premier League season just around the corner, Fantasy Premier League managers will now be thinking of building their initial Fantasy Squad. The roster of players to choose from is huge, but with the 100 million budget, you will need to make your choices carefully. Amongst the roster, there are some individuals that have proved their capabilities in the previous seasons with stellar performances. This is a list of those players, it is a good idea to have a few of these as your marquee signings as your initial FPL players in your 2020-21 squads ahead of the FPL Gameweek 2.
We are here with the Watchlist series ahead of Gameweek 2 to identify some of the players that caught the eye over the opening weekend. There are midweek EFL Cup games to be played and big hitters from Manchester United and City returning, there is no need to rush into any early moves. Here are some of the players in our FPL Gameweek 2 Watchlist who are possible options to transfer into the Fantasy team over the coming game weeks.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Forward) – 7 million
There are a few Everton assets on the radar after that impressive 1-0 win over Tottenham Spurs on Sunday with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the man who made the difference in the end. He met Lucas Digne ‘s freekick with a bullet header that gave Hugo Lloris no chance after cleverly getting between Alderweireld and Dier . Only Salah and Aubameyang landed more than his two shots on target on the game week. After struggling in the final nine-game weeks of last season post restart where only Crystal Palace and Norwich recorded fewer goals than Everton, they were a much-improved outfit thanks to new signings in the midfield. Both James and Doucoure created nine chances between them and only Liverpool had more attempts than Carlo Ancelott i’s men in game week 1. The Toffees now have a very promising schedule with four of the next five fixtures given a difficulty rating of just two .
Richarlison (Forward) – 8 million
Despite failing to pick up FPL Points, Richarlison really should have opened the scoring against Tottenham when he went through one on one and took the ball around goalkeeper Hugo Lloris . That chance was given a 0.22 expected goals figure and the Brazillian later had an even better opportunity to score from a 0.27 XG header . No player has had more than his two big chances during the same week with only Salah, Vardy, and Zaha equalling that amount. Liverpool ‘ s hat-trick hero was also the only player to make more than Richarlison’s seven total shots or his five efforts from inside the box. Although he operated from the left rather than through the middle, the newly classified FPL forward had nine touches in the opposition’s box more than any other player during that match.
Callum Wilson (Forward) – 6.5 million
Callum Wilson scored on his debut to help Newcastle make a winning start to the season. The new signing was a persistent threat throughout recording four shots in total, three of which came from inside the box. Only Michael Antonio had more than his seven touches in the opposition’s box during the match. And Richarlison was the only other forward to better that number over the weekend. Amongst FPL forwards only Jaime Vardy who converted two penalties can better Wilson’s 0.85 expected goals figure during game week 1. Brighton ‘s visit to St James Park in game week 2 could spell further points for the England striker but it’s really from game week 7, Newcastle’s fixtures improve. Over an eight-game week run, they have seven matches that are rated two on the Fixture Difficulty Rankings including home ties with Everton, West Brom, and Fulham .
Luke Ayling (Defender) – 4.5 million
Well, we didn’t think we would be adding a Leeds defender after Gameweek 1 especially when they conceded four goals but for 4.5 million Ayling does come as a bargain fantasy defender this year. On paper, Leeds have got quite good fixtures, even Wolves at home on Gameweek 5 which is tricky might not be a bad fixture from the defensive point of view, and Sheffield against game week 3 offers value playing against as a defender. Even with City home being a tricky game the way Leeds played against Liverpool, pressing from the front, with an 0.9 XG conceded from open play it’s not at all bad considering they played against the champions.
Willian (Midfielder) – 8 million
After three assists in his opening game for Arsenal , you will have to keep Willian in the watchlist. Although watching doesn’t mean you go out and outright buy him, it’s about keeping your tabs on him, keeping an eye on for the upcoming weeks. So in the future, he might be worth looking at fixtures, Liverpool and City away are probably what would put you off. West Ham and Sheffield United at home both look really good, but the fixtures don’t get better after that either. the fixtures continue to get tricky for Arsenal so it’s probably worth watching him with triple assist and so heavily involved in the attack. It is also to be noted how often he gets rotated with both Pepe and Saka can play on the right-hand side but with 0.87 expected goals on the first game, he is bound to be more involved in goal-scoring chances than creating them.
