We are here with the Watchlist series ahead of Gameweek 3 to identify some of the players that caught the eye over the last weekend. Here are some of the players in our FPL Gameweek 3 Watchlist who are possible options to transfer into the Fantasy team over the coming game weeks.
James Rodriguez (Midfielder) 7.6 million
Everton assets remain firmly on the Watchlist after another impressive win. This time beating West Brom 5-2. Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison , and James Rodriguez each achieved double-figure returns. The Colombian midfielder supplied 2 attempted assists during the game and only Salah has attempted more than his 7 over the opening two gameweeks combined. Only Harry Kane has created more big chances than his two . Rodriguez continues to share set pieces with Lucas Digne taking 6 corners to the Frenchman’s 7 so far this season. The Toffees have now scored 6 goals with only Leicester and Leeds netting more. They fashioned 6 big chances ranking joint top in the league along with Liverpool and Spurs . Fixtures against Crystal Palace and Brighton in the next two game weeks could prove to be more of a challenge, they’ve each kept one clean sheet so far. The eagles have however opponents 4 big chances with only 5 teams faring worse in that respect.
Harvey Barnes (Midfielder) 7 million
Harvey Barnes was outstanding in Leicester ‘s 4-2 win over Burnley using his clever movement and pace to amass a goal and assist. No FPL midfielder has taken more than his 5 shots in the box during the gameweek with only Calvert-Lewin striking more across all positions. Only Son and Mitrovic have landed more than his 3 efforts on target. Across the opening two gameweeks, the 22-year-old has taken 18 touches in the opposition’s box. Only Richarlison and Salah have had more, but in an away trip to Manchester City in gameweek 3 makes it tempting to hold off from an immediate move for the Leicester midfielder. Following that match, the foxes have back to back home games against West Ham and Aston Villa . Where only four teams have shipped more goals than the Hammers so far.
Chris Wood (Forward) 6.5 million
Chris Wood looked sharp in Burnley’s first game of the season. Scoring the opening goal of the game before later striking the post. Only Antonio, Son, and Calvert-Lewin were afforded more than his 2 big chances over the last weekend matches. Calvert-Lewin. Maupay and Mitrovic were the only FPL Forwards to land more than his 2 shots on target. With 14 goals in 32 appearances, last season the New Zealand international averaged 4.3 points per game. Between gameweek’s 3 and 9 Burnley doesn’t face a single side with a fixture difficulty rating higher than three . Their next three opponents include a Southampton side that shipped 5 goals to Spurs last weekend and West Brom who have conceded a league-high total of 8 goals so far. The Saints have allowed opponents 7 big chances in the opening two gameweeks with only West Brom faring worse with 8.
Raul Jimenez (Forward) 8.5 million
With goals in each of the last two gameweeks, Jimenez has averaged 7 points per game. No FPL Forward has been afforded more than his 3 big chances so far while only Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have taken more than his 7 shots in the box . Only Ings, Mitrovic, and Calvert-Lewin have landed more than his 3 shots on targe t. Wolves have scored 3 goals over the first two matches taking 21 shots with only 6 teams shooting more often. Their opponents West Ham have conceded 4 goals so far with only Southampton , Fulham, Leeds , and West Brom have been more porous. They allowed opponents 15 shots in the box and 3 big chances over those matches.
Heung-Min Son (Midfielder) 9 million
Initially on our radar before starting the season, Heung-Min Son after netting 4 goals in the 5-2 hammering of Southampton last weekend, is not only in the watchlist but is a firm contender for the armband this week. The South Korean rank joint top with a tally of 4 shots on target and 3 big chances in gameweek 2 . Although the high line the Saints played will be a key factor as to whether Newcastle will be as accomodating, it remains to be seen. Between Mourinho ‘s appointment ahead of gameweek 13 and the end of last season, no Spurs player has contributed as many as Son’s 118 FPL Points , comprising of 8 goals and 8 assists in 20 appearances. He averages 6.3 points per game during home matches against teams that finish in the bottom half of the table. Newcastle has conceded 34 goals in 16 matches against the top 8 teams last season an average of 2.1 per game.
