With the new Premier League season just around the corner, Fantasy Premier League managers will now be thinking of building their initial Fantasy Squad. The roster of players to choose from is huge, but with the 100 million budget, you will need to make your choices carefully. Amongst the roster, there are some individuals that have proved their capabilities in the previous seasons with stellar performances. This is a list of those players, it is a good idea to have a few of these as your marquee signings as your initial FPL players in your 2020-21 squads ahead of the FPL Gameweek 4.
We are here with the Watchlist series ahead of Gameweek 3 to identify some of the players that caught the eye over the last weekend. With the injury to Heung-Min Son and question marks remaining over Timo Werner , it’s midfielders and forwards who are under consideration ahead of FPL Gameweek 4. Here are some of the players in our FPL Gameweek 4 Watchlist who are possible options to transfer into the Fantasy team over the coming game weeks.
Jaime Vardy (Forward) 10 million
Leicester rocked the Etihad as Jaime Vardy completed his hat trick in a 5-2 win. Two of his goals came from the penalty spot and he has now converted 4 times from 12 yards out this season. The Foxes even went to claim the third penalty against Manchester City after Vardy had been subbed off with a knock. But Brandon Rodgers played down the injury concern after the game saying he only has a hip issue which normally settles down after a few days. With just 2 shots in the box a nd 1 big chance from open play, there is a worry that the 33-year-old may continue to be over-reliant on penalties. His non-penalty xG of 0.34 ranks 20th amongst FPL forwards. But the fixtures in the immediate future look ideal with two historically poorest defenses up next for Leicester in West Ham and Aston Villa .
Bruno Fernandes (Midfielder) 10.5 million
Bruno Fernandes kept his composure to coolly convert a dramatic injury-time spot-kick that saw his side take three points at Brighton . Despite being far from his best and giving away the opening penalty after a clumsy foul on Tariq Lamptey , the Portuguese international came away with a double-digit return reminiscent of the end of last season. Over the last two game weeks, only De Bruyne has provided more than his 7 attempted assists and only James Rodriguez can better his 0.93 expected assists figure. Manchester United was handed 14 penalties last season, three more than any other side. With the new handball rule coming into play we have seen 20 penalties awarded so far this season. There were just 8 awarded by the end of Gameweek 3 last season. United has a mixed bag of upcoming fixtures. They host three of the traditional big six team s in the next 4 game weeks, but a trip to Newcastle in game week 5 could see Bruno Fernandes become a popular captaincy option.
Danny Ings (Forward) 8.4 million
Danny Ings has been quick off the mark this season scoring 3 goals in three-game weeks and earning an average of 7.3 points per game. Amongst FPL Forwards, only Mitrovic , Kane, and Calvert-Lewin have landed more than his 5 efforts on target so far. He is been afforded 3 big chances behind only Maupay with 4. Southampton has scored just three goals this season, only Burnley and Sheffield United have scored fewer. However, only six teams have created more big chances than their 6 which indicates they have been let down by poor finishing. Their opponent’s defensive numbers offer plenty of hope to improve on those numbers. No teams have conceded more goals, shots on target, or big chances than the Baggies , their next opponent this season.
Riyad Mahrez (Midfielder) 8.4 million
Riyad Mahrez returned to the Manchester City 11 to face his former club and played a direct hand in both of his team’s goals. The Algerian matched De Bruyne with tallies of 3 attempted assists and 1 big chance created during the game week. While only Sterling took as many as his 3 shots amongst teammates. Injuries to Jesus, Aguero, and Bernardo Silva should increase the amount of game time, Mahrez is handed in the coming game weeks. Last season he amassed an impressive 8.1 points per 90 minutes from 11 goals and 14 assists in 33 appearances. His tally of 18 big chances created was on par with Alexander Arnold and only behind De Bruyne. After suffering the heavy defeat to Leicester, Man City now face Leeds , West Ham , and Sheffield United over the next 4 game weeks, where they will look to return to form.
Mohammed Salah (Midfielder) 12.1 million
No FPL midfielder has earned more than Mo Salah’s 28 points this season, with the Egyptian King averaging a score of 9.3 per game . He has produced league-leading figures of 17 total shots, 13 attempts f rom inside the box, 11 attempted assists, and 35 touches in the opposition’s box . Only Mane and Barnes have landed more than his 5 efforts on target amongst midfielders. Though he was less prolific away than at Anfield last season, the 28-year-old still played a direct hand in 10 goals across 16 away matches with tallies of 4 goals and 6 assists giving him an average of 5.3 points per game week. Aston Villa has made a strong start to the season with 2 wins and 2 clean sheets against Sheffield United and Fulham but they conceded 36 goals against the top six teams last season, an average of three per game. The Champions have scored 9 goals in their 3 matche s with only Leicester scoring more with the Reds also being top for shots and big chances. Salah is a vital call for captaincy this week with all the odds favoring his return against Villa.
