With the new Premier League season just around the corner, Fantasy Premier League managers will now be thinking of building their initial Fantasy Squad. The roster of players to choose from is huge, but with the 100 million budget, you will need to make your choices carefully. Amongst the roster, there are some individuals that have proved their capabilities in the previous seasons with stellar performances. This is a list of those players, it is a good idea to have a few of these as your marquee signings as your initial FPL players in your 2020-21 squads ahead of the FPL Gameweek 8.
The Watchlist is back to identify more players who caught the eye the last weekend. Here are five transfer targets for your fantasy squads for FPL Gameweek 8 and beyond.
Kevin De Bruyne (Midfielder) 11.5 million
De Bruyne was awarded a generous assist against Sheffield United after Kyle Walker opened the scoring with a long-range effort having received the ball from the Belgian. The 29-year-old attempted a total of 3 assists during the game with only Cancelo offering more from either side. His tally of 18 attempted assists this season is on par with Salah with only Bruno Fernandes managing more. No teammate has fired more than his 15 shots or landed more than his 6 on target.
Note: Whilst there is no immediate rush to buy Man City assets with games against Liverpool and Spurs up next, the upcoming fixture swing is worth planning for from game week 10 , they face a long run of favorable fixtures including home ties with Burnley, Fulham, West Ham, and Newcastle over a six-match spell. Despite a slow start to the season, Manchester City has created chances every 6.6 minutes on home turf with only Aston Villa and Liverpool faring better.
Callum Wilson (Forward) 6.5 million
The emergence of budget forward options has come at the right time to potentially help fund those premium Man City assets. Callum Wilson scored both Newcastle goals in their 2-1 win over Everton converting a penalty he had won himself before meeting Ryan Fraser’s cross to tap in from close range. No player has had more than his 2 big chances during the last game week while only Jack Grealish can better his 4 shots in the box. Over the last four-game weeks the 28-year-old ranks join tops with Watkins for big chances with 6 while his 3.58 expected goals are a league-leading figure.
Only Kane , Mitrovic , and Bamford have fired more than his 10 shots in the box during that period amongst forwards. Newcastle has some promising upcoming fixtures before game week 15 taking on West Brom and Fulham at home, amongst away ties with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa , and Leeds .
Ollie Watkins (Forward) 6.0 million
Aston Villa sparked into life late on against Southampton after Ollie Watkins fired in from the penalty spot but two stoppage-time goals were not enough to avoid defeat. No sides have had as many as their 10 shots on target during the last game week while only Newcastle can equal their 4 big chances. Over the last four-game weeks, only Spurs have scored more goals and only Liverpool has had more big chances. Watkins ranks joint top with Callum Wilso n for big chances over that period while his tally of 7 efforts on target is on par with Kane, Calvert-Lewin , and Bamford , with only Salah landing more.
No FPL Forward has taken as many as 27 touches in the oppositions’ box over the same period. Aston Villa has the fixtures to continue their impressive form in front of goal, hosting Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley , and Crystal Palace over the next eight-game weeks.
Aaron Cresswell (Defender) 5.1 million
With 3 assists and 2 clean sheets over the last five-game weeks, Cresswell has averaged 6 points per game. No FPL defender has amassed as many as his 11 attempted assists over that period while only Alexander Arnold and Ayling has created more big chances than his 2. He has taken all 8 of West Ham’s indirect free kicks , while no teammate has scored more corners oh which he has had an equal share with Bowen .
The Hammers have conceded just 8 goals over the last six-game weeks, keeping two clean sheets, only Arsenal have conceded fewer. Only Brighton has allowed opponents fewer shots than their 29 . With the kind run of upcoming schedule, West Ham has, it is no wonder to see their players appear twice in this watchlist. The last five-game weeks have seen Fornals contribute 2 goals and 3 assists to earn 7 points per game. The Spaniard ranks joint fifth amongst midfielders with a tally of 9 shots in the box over this period only behind Mane, Zaha , Grealish , and Salah . Amongst teammates, only Antonio has landed more than his 5 shots on target while only Creswell can compare to his 5 attempted assists .
West Ham has scored 13 goals over the last six game weeks with only Leicester , Everton , Southampton, Aston Villa , and Spurs scoring more. They have landed 24 shots on target and fashioned 10 big chances over those matches. Fulham has conceded 11 goals over the last 6 game weeks with only Liverpool, Burnley, Man United , and West Brom conceding more. They have also conceded 14 big chances over those matches with only Manchester United faring worse.
