The UEFA Champions League group stage has reached its ultimate point, and within the first 5 game-weeks, 9 teams, namely Bayern Munich , Manchester City, FC Porto , Liverpool FC , Borussia Dortmund , Chelsea , Sevilla , FC Barcelona , Juventus have made their qualification to the knockout stages confirmed. We are here to guide you through this trouble with our UCL Fantasy Matchday 6 Guide by helping you to pick the exact players you should be keeping in your team in order to hit the top of your mini-leagues as well as to climb up the ranks in the global leagues as well. There are still 7 knockout stage berths up for the grab, with 13 contenders across five groups, most of who would play do-or-die matches against each other. It would be typical that the managers of those teams already qualified, would give rest to many of their first-team players, and field the reserve players, due to the tightly-packed league schedule of December. However, the managers of those 13 contender teams, may not be able to do so.
Group- A
RB Salzburg vs Atlético Madrid
Bayern Munich is the group topper, and have qualified with ease. The 2nd place is up for the grab, with Atletico Madrid having 6 points and Salzburg 4 points. A draw would be enough for Simeone’s men to qualify, but Salzburg need a win against them to reach 7 points, or they go to the Europa League instead. Salzburg beat Lokomotiv Moscow 3-1 last week, but the defence of Atlético and Lokomotiv are miles apart.
Key Fantasy League Players:
- M.Berisha (Salzburg/ FWD/€7.2m) [ 4 goals, 2 assists, 31 points ] scored 1 and assisted 1 in the reverse fixture, is a cheap alternative.
- J.Félix (Atlético/MID/€9m) [ 3 goals, 1assist, 26 points ] scored a brace in the reverse fixture, might be effective in the long run.
Group- B
Real Madrid vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
The unexpected group of death, thanks to the exceptional performances from Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Mönchengladbach, and disappointing performances from Real Madrid and Inter Milan so far. One of the 2 groups yet to have at least 1 team qualified for the knockouts. With all the 4 teams still in contention to qualify, the Spanish giants (currently having 7 points) would want a win against the German opposition, who are currently at 8 points to qualify. A draw would do for Mönchengladbach, but to be group toppers, and to avoid complications, a win is a must for both. The reverse fixture ended in a 2-2 draw.
Key Fantasy League Players:
- A.Pléa (Mönchengladbach/FWD/€8.4m) [ 5 goals, 3 assists, 39 points ] had 2 assists in the reverse fixture.
- M.Thuram (Mönchengladbach/FWD/€8.7m) [ 2 goals, 2 assists, 30 points ] had 2 goals in the reverse fixture, and with his teammate, are considerably cheaper options, given their recent forms.
Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk
The Italian side was one of the favorites to qualify from this group, but instead, they lay the bottom of the group with 5 points after 5 matches. The Ukrainian side is currently 2nd in the group with 7 points, and a win might make them the table toppers. Whereas, Inter will have to win the fixture, and also wait for Real Madrid’s loss. The reverse fixture ended 0-0, which might not be the result this time.
Key Fantasy League Players:
- R.Lukaku (Inter/FWD/€10.8m) [ 4 goals scored, 23 points so far ] scored a brace last week against Mönchengladbach, however, transferring him in won’t be a good option now, as his team has very faint chances of qualifying.
Group- D
Ajax vs Atalanta BC
Liverpool is the leaders of this group and already secured their qualification. Now it is all about the 2nd position in the group, or the Europa League, with 2 contenders Ajax and Atalanta, facing each other at Amsterdam. Atalanta surprised everyone with their performance last year, and Ajax also did so, the season before. This year, only one can continue their run. Atalanta is currently 2nd, with 8 points, and Ajax 3rd with 7. The equation is simple for Ajax, ‘A Win’. Ajax would not want to draw this fixture at their home, as they would have to play in the Europa League then, unlike Atalanta, whom even a draw would do a favour. The reverse fixture at Bergamo ended 2-2.
Key Fantasy League Players:
- C.Romero (Atalanta/DEF/€4.9m) [ 1 goal, 1 assist, 60 ball recoveries, 40 points so far ] currently the highest point scoring defender. In case Atalanta qualify, he might be a must-have defender in your squad too.
- D.Zapata (Atalanta/FWD/€9.7m) [ 3 goals, 2 assists, 28 points so far ] the attacking football of Atalanta is not unknown, and he is their main goalscorer undoubtedly.
Group- F
Lazio vs Club Brugge
In this group, Borussia Dortmund has confirmed their qualification, but are not sure of their 1st position in the group. Lazio , currently 2nd with 9 points can overtake them if they beat Club Brugge, and Dortmund loses or draw to Zenit. For Club Brugge, they can’t be table toppers unless they score 8-9 goals in the match, but can qualify as 2nd placed team, if they beat Lazio in Italy. In short, this is a must-win for both sides. The reverse fixture at Bruges ended 1-1.
Key Fantasy League Players:
- C.Immobile (Lazio/FWD/€10.5m) [ 4 goals, 1 assist, 29 points so far ] One of the topmost goalscorers at the moment, and Lazio’s main source of goals. He’s a safe option upfront, considering the odds against Lazio qualifying ahead of Club Brugge)
- C.De Ketelaere (Brugge/MID/€4.5m) [ 2 goals, 18 ball recoveries, 27 points so far ] Considering his price, and guarantee to start, the Belgian teenager would now be a decent budget midfield option for the fantasy players, in case Brugge qualify.
Group- H
RB Leipzig vs Manchester United
This group was considered as a Group of death the day the UCL group stage draw was held, and rightfully so. The other group besides Group B, which is yet to have a confirmed qualifier for the knockouts. Three teams Manchester United , Paris Saint-Germain , RB Leipzig are currently 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the group, all with 9 points, after 5 matches. The difference after the 6th game-week would be that, 2 of them would play in the UCL knockouts, and one of them in the Europa League. PSG just need to win at their home against İstanbul Başakşehir to qualify. The same for the game at Leipzig, a win will guarantee qualification without complications. Considering the home form of Leipzig, and the away form of Manchester United, this will be a match to watch out for, among all the discussed matches here. The last time they met this season, Manchester triumphed at the Old Trafford with a 5-0 win. What will be the result this time?
Key Fantasy League Players:
- M.Rashford (Manchester United/MID/€9.1m) [ 6 goals, 40 points so far] A hattrick against this opposition last time out, and currently the player jointly with the most fantasy points so far this season.
- B.Fernandes (Manchester United/MID/€9.5m) [ 3 goals, 1 assist, 28 points so far ] The Portuguese midfielder has been a sensation for the Red Devils, from the day he signed for them. Although he is a premium-priced midfielder, he is a setpiece taker, and is undoubtedly a good choice for a fantasy team.
- Angeliño (Leipzig/DEF/€5.4m) [ 2 goals, 2 assists, 34 points so far ] The Spanish fullback scored a brace in their 1st UCL match this season. Undoubtedly, he is a must-have at this stage.
