Scripting is a myth that is present in many games, notably FIFA , you’ll find that sometimes the game just doesn’t like you anymore. You’ll suffer continuous losing streaks and it will almost feel as though you are being forced to lose. All this is likely due to Scripting in FIFA 21. Is it really necessary for the game? Does it even exist? What can you do against it?
Scripting in FIFA 21 is the word used to describe the process in which a game plays according to one player’s favor, usually in online modes. It almost feels as if the game doesn’t want you to win, your players start playing worse, the opposition feels much better than they should and the luck is quite one-sided. In the opposite scenario, scripting can aid you and the game can play in your favor, whilst you can sense the other player fuming. Almost all FIFA players have experienced this to an extent, some worse than others.
Does Scripting in FIFA 21 really exist?
Nobody has confirmed the existence of Scripting in FIFA 21 at all so it is still currently a myth. However, all the evidence and experiences players have had prove that there is some kind of subtle scripting present in the game. All you have to do is search on the web for evidence, or even just jump into a match right now. It feels like it is there, but nobody knows for sure if it is there.
EA themselves have denied the existence of such mechanics. One football fan asked about this for last year’s edition of FIFA 20, to which EA responded with these words:
As mentioned before, there is no ‘scripting’, ‘handicap’, ‘momentum’, and/or ‘DDA’ in the game.
We build a football simulation game by implementing the different concepts of football. These concepts include an error system and a physics system which bring variety and authenticity to the game. When recreating the details of football, all real life outcomes are possible.Every year we are actively trying to reduce situations in the game that feel random and outside of the user control. And we continue to see progress in this area each year.
EA
From a gameplay design perspective, there is absolutely no need to implement systems to influence the outcome of the game artificially, since all the above mentioned already creates a football-like experience for our players.
As explained in the past, the only time our game adjusts the difficulty of the CPU AI (offline only) is during the introductory boot-up match that tries to determine which offline difficulty level is best suited for you.
As you can see, EA claim that there is no such thing as scripting present in the game, especially in online modes. While this may be true, the presence of “random situations” can still be felt in high concentrations. All in all, scripting may still be a myth, however the ideas of it are felt on a regular basis by FIFA players.
What’s the point in Scripting in FIFA 21?
Now you may be wondering, what’s the point in Scripting in FIFA 21? Why is there the need for a deliberate algorithm which helps a side win? Why can’t it just be a fair game? Well, the answer to that is based on many reasons.
Player Satisfaction
When scripting works in your favour, you almost always feel satisfied. You may be suffering from a long losing streak, suddenly, you get a burst of luck and the game plays with you. Then, you get the beautiful feeling of winning a game. Now, on the other side of the match, there would be someone else playing, someone that well and truly may have deserved to win, but they didn’t, because of scripting. Obviously, they would not be satisfied, this person may have been you a few times in the past. It’s not fair on them though, is it not?
Balanced Rewards
The big reason why people play online modes in FIFA is for rewards. If you go on a losing streak, you get bad rewards, with scripting though, the game fixes your losing streak which gives you better rewards. This balances out rewards so some people that may not necessarily be good at the game don’t get left out once rewards are distributed. Because of this though, another player has to suffer.
Covering Bugs
This is a very subtle reason for scripting to exist, but it makes sense logically. Any video-game has bugs and this is a concept that simply can’t be removed, no matter how hard the developers may try. Scripting is a myth which makes people believe that the game is working with/without the player in matches. This in effect does cover up some small gameplay bugs as they can sometimes be dismissed by the player as the effect of scripting, when in reality, it might actually be something wrong with the game. This is a theory which seems to make sense when you think about it.
How can you handle Scripting in FIFA 21?
There is no way in which you can completely eradicate the mechanic. However, you can still attempt to mitigate the effects. These tips should help you feel a little more eased out when you encounter scripting in the game.
1. Alter your play-style
The main effect of scripting is where your players feel a lot worse than they usually are. They’ll lose the ball easier, their passes will be much less accurate and they’ll be much more clumsy in their tackling. Countering this is very difficult, the best way is to simply change how you play to a much safer and conservative manner. Take less risks and play smarter and slower. Try to avoid dribbling as much as possible and attempt only the safest shots and passes. Doing this will enable you to control the effects of the myth and possibly reduce the impacts.
2. Focus on defending
Another very annoying component of scripting is the fact that your opponent suddenly becomes extremely lucky with everything they do. They’ll manage to squeeze through gaps that would usually be impossible and they’ll move the ball almost inhumanely. The biggest and most irritating thing is where you watch your own players deflecting the ball back towards the opposing players. Again, you’ll just have to play safer and defend in larger numbers. Make sure to always give your players back-up, so even if you they do make errors, the impacts of them would be less fatal.
3. Take breaks
If you find yourself suffering to some seriously unfair matches, just take a break off the pitch and do something else. It could even just be managing your team or playing a different mode. A better alternative to that is to go get some fresh air off the screen, freshen up, then come back. You should feel much better and much more prepared for the matches.
