EA has just released a new batch of cards in UCL Road To The Final Part 3 players for both European competitions. There are some solid cards here, while some are quite lacking. Remember, these cards are upgradeable so as the team moves closer to the final, the cards will be upgraded to be better. This article will look at each of these UCL RTTF cards and review them based on their usability in the game, and the probability of an upgrade. Now without further ado, let’s get into it.
UCL Road to the Final Part 3
Joao Cancelo (86)
Usability – 7.4/10
Movement – Not the best Pace stat at all, You’ll find many meta wingers that can easily outrun the 89 speed of Cancelo. However, on the ball, He is pretty smooth. It should be easy for you to do some agile dribbling to find space to put in a good cross with the Portuguese.
Distribution – Like the card’s dribbling, The passing stats are also generally quite balanced. With a Crossing stat of 87, This card is pretty much perfect to use in a wing-play tactic.
Physicality – You probably shouldn’t rely on this guy to support you in defence. Although He can put in the odd tackle and block the odd pass, He isn’t very strong at all. He has a strength stat of 63, which is poor. You’ll need a strong and aggressive RCB to do the dirty world.
Recommended Role – The obvious choice is at RB, don’t try charging down the flank with Cancelo, since he can easily be outrun. Instead, wait for him to arrive in attack and then use his dribbling to create room for a cross or central pass. An alternative to using him as an RB is to shift him to an attacking CDM in-game since he has some very balanced dribbling and passing stats. Make sure to have another defensive CDM alongside him as support. Overall, this UCL Road to the Final Part 3 Cancelo is not certainly end-game material as the defensive prowess doesn’t seem quite good on it.
Upgrade Potential – 9.5/10
Manchester City has been matched with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the next round of the UCL. It is pretty obvious who the winner of the tie is likely to be, so the odds of this card getting an upgrade are pretty high. Don’t set your mind completely though as the competition is known to provide some great comebacks, the Bundesliga side may be ready to cause an upset. However, City is expected to go quite far in the UCL anyway.
Mauro Icardi (87)
Usability – 4/10
Movement – This card is both slow on the ball and off the ball. With the Pace stat of only 77 and an Agility stat of 76, He is very sluggish on the turn. Although He does own some high ball control and reactions stats, They simply don’t change the fact that this UCL Road to the Final Part 3 Icardi is just very slow and easy to tackle.
Distribution – With 82 Short passing, Icardi is decent at some quick link-up play, apart from that, The passing looks very below-par, with the overall stat being only 70. As for the card’s shooting, This is probably the only positive of this card. With a Positioning stat of 94 and a Finishing stat of 92, Icardi can just score a load of goals near the box.
Physicality – Icardi can head the ball very well, with a Heading stat of 93 and a Jumping stat of 96. Other than that, the physicality is very lacking. He only has 74 Strength, which is very poor if you were to use him as a target man.
Possible Role – Icardi would play best as a simple target man and can be used only for the end product. If you can somehow find a way of getting the ball directly to him in a position where he can shoot, then that is enough, because on the ball, Icardi is more of a liability. Sadly, the PSG talisman doesn’t score high in FIFA 21.
Upgrade Potential – 7/10
PSG have been matched with Barcelona in the next round of the UCL, which will be a game to watch. Both teams are quite evenly matched, but only one will go through so the chances of Icardi getting an upgrade are quite balanced. This would be quite a risky one to look out for.
Julian Brandt (87)
Usability – 8.9/10
Movement – This card just feels very smooth on the ball although, He might feel a little clunky due to his height, if you look past that, You’ll find that this card is in fact, brilliant. As a CAM, such stats are amazing, on top of that the 84 Pace will likely be a nice little boost for you. It isn’t much to outrun the meta, but it still respectable.
Distribution – Brandt excels as a playmaker, He is likely the connecting piece in the centre of your attack. With passing stats of 85, He can move the ball to your teammates very nicely. On top of that, this UCL Road to the Final Part 3 card has 82 Shooting, which is nicely rounded for a CAM.
Physicality – You should really expect some low physicality stats for such a player. However, They are somewhat decent. Brandt has 75 Strength, which for a CAM is respectable.
Possible Role – This card would probably be the best fit in a central CAM position, at the heart of all the attack. You can rely on Brandt to carry the ball forward when driving your team in attack.
Upgrade Potential – 7/10
Dortmund has been matched up with Sevilla in the next round of the UCL, which is a pretty standard match-up. Although Sevilla may not seem very flashy, They are still a tough side to come up against. Dortmund has a pretty good chance in this season in the UCL. However, one stat you could think about, Dortmund have not passed the Round of 16 for the last 4 seasons. This could be the season they break that curse, but the curse could still run on.
Georginio Wijnaldum
Usability – 9/10
Movement – He may not be the fastest card, but on the ball, He is brilliant. The 90 Ball control, the 90 Balance and the 88 overall Dribbling stats really speak for themselves. Also, the 4* skills on a central midfielder is also impressive, It may not be the highest, but It is very good for someone in that position.
Distribution – The 90 Short Passing is clearly the most stand-out feature of this sector of this UCL Road to the Final Part 3 card. However, if you look closer, all the stats for passing and shooting are above 75 (except crossing which is 74 but that is still acceptable). It is just so well-balanced, that You don’t actually need to worry about the standard accuracy of distribution. The 4* Weak foot makes that even better.
Physicality – The 76 Strength might not be at the highest level, but it is still decent, just like pretty much all the rest of the stats. Wijnaldum carries 81 Defending and 81 Physicality, it’s nothing Vieira-esque, but It is still nicely balanced.
Possible Role – The stats are all very nicely balanced, which just means one thing, a perfect box-to-box midfielder. He can contribute in defence while also charge forward in attack. Being a Liverpool player can also get you green links with players like Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah.
Upgrade Potental – 8/10
Liverpool will come up against an underdog RB Leipzig side, of course, Liverpool is the likely favourite in this fixture, but anything could happen in the UCL. This could be a worthwhile investment, considering the fact that Liverpool are one of the tougher contestants in the road to the UCL final.
David Alaba
Usability – 9.1
Movement – Alaba comes with 80 Pace, which for a CB, is very respectable. Along with that, Alaba carries some of his past LB skills as he carries 84 Dribbling. Defensive mistakes are some of the most annoying ones and the most dangerous ones, You could avoid these with Alaba in your backline.
Distribution – Again, Alaba brings back the LB experience, this time with the 84 Passing. That is not at all necessary for a CB, but it is a huge plus anyway. You’ll find him putting in long balls with ease.
Physicality – The physicality might not be the best, with Alaba having only 79 Stamina, which is a huge downside. The 80 Strength also lets the Austrian down as well. However, the defensive stats are all nice and green, which is genuinely what you would expect from a high overall CB.
Possible Role – The first position in which you could use this UCL Road to the Final Part 3 card would be at LCB, since his primary left foot can give your defence some tactical versatility. An interesting alternative would be to play him at CDM, the passing and dribbling would compliment well with the defensive stats.
Upgrade Potential – 9/10
Bayern Munich has come up against one of the lower-rated sides in the UCL, the Italian club Lazio. It is pretty clear which team is favourites to win. With Bayern Munich defending champions of the UCL, They are likely to go far this season. Nevertheless, Alaba could be a good card to watch.
Raphael Varane
Usability – 9.9/10
Movement – As a CB, this kind of movement is brutal. 84 Pace might seem weak, but if you combine that with the defender catch-up speed from the game mechanics, that is an insane tally. He might be incredibly costly, but he is definitely one of the most meta CBs out there at the moment.
Distribution – You wouldn’t need to worry too much about this for a CB, the player simply needs to know how to pass the ball under pressure. Varane can do that pretty easily with his 83/82 Short and Long Passing respectively.
Physicality – He might not be the strongest CB, but he does hit above average with 88 Strength. His most successful stat is his Positioning (91), He is almost always available in defence in the right position and the right time. Combine that with the pace and boom!
Possible Role – He can easily be squeezed into a hybrid, considering the fact that he is French and from La Liga. You’ll see a lot of teams with him as LCB and Ferland Mendy at LB. That would prove to be a lethal partnership.
Upgrade Potential – 7/10
Real Madrid has been matched with Atalanta, both are strong sides running on a below-par run of form. There can really be no conclusion for the result of this match, Madrid seem like they have the edge but Atalanta aren’t any worse. This wouldn’t be a good investment to make in the hope of an upgrade, but to buy such a card would be perfect.
