Luka Jovic joins Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Real Madrid for the remainder of the season. During his time in the Bundesliga, Luka Jovic established his presence with 17 goals in the 2018/19 season. He slowly became one of the hottest prospects in Europe, and Real Madrid was lucky enough to snap up the youngster for £55 million. However, the Serbian striker has failed to live up to expectations after falling back to being 3rd choice striker with only 2 goals and 2 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions since his arrival. Jovic appears to be very eager to link up with his former teammates in an attempt to regain his lost form.
Luka Jovic joins Eintracht Frankfurt on loan: Contract Details
The 23-year-old will play in the Bundesliga for the remainder of the 2020/21 season and Real Madrid will pay a part of the salary. Frankfurt sporting director confirmed the talks, and says “If everything works out, he will be with us again”. It is reported that Luka Jovic was the one who put in a request to move away from Spain, Zidane allowed him since he wasn’t currently in mind for any of the Frenchman’s plans. Although Jovic is unhappy at Real Madrid, he is eager to work his way back into the first team. Real Madrid themselves are also not interested in making a permanent sale, hence the loan.
Luka Jovic: Career at Real Madrid
So far in Spain, Jovic has suffered a tough couple of seasons since his arrival in 2019. Injuries, bad form, off-pitch problems, and a lack of opportunities have caused Jovic to fall down the pecking order. Since joining, he has only made 8 starts and played just 806 minutes in total during his first season in La Liga. During that time, he only tallied 2 goals and 2 assists, which is a very poor record to what he had during his time at Frankfurt. The 2020/21 season has only gone worse, with Jovic making only 3 starts and playing only 208 minutes, including no goals or assists.
As well as his bad form on the pitch, Jovic also suffered some off-pitch problems as well, including some disciplinary issues. These have acted as many of the reasons as to why Jovic was secluded from both the Real Madrid starting XI and the Serbian national team.
Jovic joins Frankfurt: What can he bring back to Frankfurt?
The Serbian finisher will be scavenging for as many goals as he can, in order to justify his quality. A string of good performances at Frankfurt should be sufficient to convince Real Madrid to give him another chance. Frankfurt, on the other hand, is in need of some extra firepower to boost their 2020/21 campaign. They sit down at 9th, with 23 points. Although only 10 points off first place, the goal difference is the area where they lack most, with a value of only 2. Perhaps the introduction of Luka Jovic as a striker who has already had a successful career in the Bundesliga, can bring more goals to the German side.
