Mesut Ozil recently tweeted about his probable future. In his own tweet, Mesut Ozil wishes to play abroad before he retires from his footballing career. The 2 countries which he mentioned in his tweet are Turkey and the USA. He also mentions the Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, as the “only” club he would join from Turkey. The Arsenal playmaker has been clearly pronounced as unwanted at the Emirates, having been left out from both the PL and the UEL squads. He is yet to make an appearance this season, and the Gunners are reportedly urgent to offload Ozil this January transfer window, after already sending Kolasinac on loan to Schalke.
Mesut Ozil wishes to play abroad: What are the possible destinations?
Ozil has been linked to a move away from London for some time now. Each time, Ozil has always responded with his desire to play out the rest of his big-money contract, earning him around £350,000 a week, the most out of any player at Arsenal. However, this January, It looks as though the World-Cup winner is finally on his way out.
The main club in the race for Ozil’s signature is Fenerbahce, a club which Ozil has already expressed his interests to play for. He even goes as far as to say Fenerbahce is like the “Real Madrid of Turkey”.
If Ozil does not find the path away from the Gunners, He will become a free agent, when his contract expires this summer, so the Arsenal board are eager to get some sort of a deal, rather than letting go of Ozil for free.
Ozil has already spoken out being frozen from the Arsenal first team. He says: “There have been many ups and downs so far, but all in all, I’ve never regret[ted] my decision to join Arsenal. And to be honest, the last couple of games before the corona break made really a lot of fun.”
