Ronaldo breaks Pele’s record of 757 goals yesterday after scoring a brace and registering an assist against Udinese at Allianz Arena yesterday. Cristiano’s brace led Juventus to a comfortable 4-1 victory against Udinese in a crucial Serie A tie.
Despite the brilliant team game from Juventus last night, the main focus was on Ronaldo who was sitting one goal shy of Pele’s tally of 757 goals. Ronaldo needed to score two goals to overtake Pele’s record.
Juventus were not in the best of form this season under Pirlo, as the team battles its way onto the top. The match started at a high tempo. Ronaldo’s first-half finish was exquisite, he added to that with a brilliant assist which again highlighted his playmaking abilities. Then came the moment that all were waiting for, as Ronaldo beat the goalkeeper for his second goal surpassing Pele’s goal tally.
This goal will have historical importance as Pele’s record was once deemed quite impossible to reach, but Ronaldo’s brilliance has finally resulted in him overtaking “The King of Football” Pele. Pele has achieved the tally by playing for two clubs Santos and New York Cosmos and now Ronaldo has edged past his record by scoring for Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid CF and Juventus.
It will be remembered as one of the greatest feats for the Portuguese superstar’s career, as he is still striving for excellence even at the age of 36 when most of the players opt to retire.
