It’s been a very busy summer going on for Chelsea as they have already signed some quality players for their team next season. Now they have made another deal official as Brazilian Centre Back Thiago Silva joins Chelsea as a free agent from French champions PSG after a fantastic season with the club, almost going all the way to win the UEFA Champions League. Thiago Silva has announced earlier that he will leave Paris-Saint-Germain this summer after staying there for 8 long years. Chelsea has confirmed the deal on their official website as well as on social media.

Thiago Silva has sent an emotional message to the fans of PSG. The player is leaving the club as a legend who will be never forgotten by the fans.

“The value of things is not in the time they last, but in the intensity with which they occur. For this reason, there are unforgettable moments, inexplicable things and incomparable people (Fernando Pessoa). Today a cycle ends, after 8 years in the PSG team, I would like to thank my teammates, all the technical team and the management, the fans, my family, God and my friends, for all these happy moments that we lived in the City of Light. Here, with my wife Belle Silva, we have lived unforgettable moments, our children have grown up, we have become French citizens, and we will forever carry these years lived and France in our hearts. Thank you very much.”

Thiago Silva joins Chelsea: Contract details

Thiago Silva joined Chelsea as a free agent from PSG. The Brazilian will sign a three-year contract to stay at the club till June 2022, according to famous Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Thiago Silva’s career at a glance

As Thiago Silva joins Chelsea, let’s look back at where it all started. Thiago Silva started his career at Esporte Clube Juventude on the 2003/04 season. Silva joined Portuguese giant FC Porto next season for about 2.3 Million Euros but did not get too many opportunities there. He joined Dynamo Moskow next season for about 3 Million Euros from FC Porto. Silva got some game time there and tried to develop himself. The starting of his career was not filled with too many opportunities.

Joining Fluminense as an youngster

Silva’s career actually took a new way after he joined Fluminense in the 2005/06 season for a loan deal from Dynamo. Silva has shown his calmness and leadership mentality at Fluminense defence. He played 14 matches for Fluminense that season. As a result of that season’s performance, Fluminense made the Loan deal permanent. Thiago Silva stayed at the Brazilian club for another two seasons. Thiago Silva also won the first silverware of his career with the Brazilian Cup in 2007. He played 76 matches for Fluminense, scored 9 goals also provided 4 assists. He amazed many big clubs with his defending quality and leadership mentality.

Going to AC Milan to establish himself

Italian giants AC Milan signed Thiago Silva from Fluminense for about 9.56 Million Euros on 2008/09 season. AC Milan were very much attracted to him for his defensive capability, leadership and calmness. Thiago Silva played Four seasons for AC Milan with his great attributes and quality. Silva won the Serie A with AC Milan on 2010/11 season which was his first silverware with the Rossoneri. He also won 2011/12 Italian Super Cup with Milan. Thiago Silva played 119 matches for AC Milan. He also scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists. He is considered as one of the best to play for Milan by the fans.

The former manager of AC Milan, under whom Milan won their final Serie A title Massimiliano Allegri also praised Thiago Silva for his quality and playing style and also called him the Best defender of the world.

“Making comparisons with Baresi is difficult, but I think Thiago Silva is the best in the world as a defender. He’s improved a lot. He is a sensational player.”

Thiago Silva himself also told somedays ago he is very much thankful to Allegri and he has still feelings for the red heart of Milan.

“When I arrived in Serie A I could not play for six months as the quota for foreign players was full. When I started to play next to Nesta it was fantastic, he has an incredible elegance about him. They were two crucial years for me and I noticed that my qualities improved considerably. I leant a lot by watching Maldini, but also by following the instructions of great coaches like Ancelotti and Allegri. I still have great respect and love for the Rossoneri colours”

Becoming the captain fantastic at PSG

Thiago Silva joined PSG from AC Milan for about 40 Million Euros on. Silva told that Milan was not challenging for silverware more so he left the club. He played 315 matches for Paris-Saint-Germain, scored 17 goals, provided 5 assists. Thiago Silva showed his dominance and qualities throughout the defence. Silva won his first Major with PSG, The French League title on his first season with the club(2012/13). He won 6 more League Titles, 6 French League Cup, 5 French Cup and 7 super cups with PSG. He won a total of 25 Silverwares with PSG.

PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi sent his good wishes for the Legend and expressed his gratitude for him. He also told that the Club will never forget his contribution.

How he can Thiago Silva help the Blues improve

Thiago Silva is a name who will come surely among the list of best Centre-Backs of all time of the World. Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants to use his experience to strengthen the squad. Chelsea’s defense was not so good for many seasons continuously. Lampard is desperate to fix the defense this season. Chelsea has already signed Left-Back Ben Chilwell from Leicester & Malang Sarr from Nice for the upcoming season and they are very much sure Silva will give balance to their defense.
