Premier League Gameweek 38: Climax for European & Relegation battle
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

2019/20 Premier league will be discussed for a long time not only for the one-way dominance of Liverpool to secure their 19th league title but also for the exciting and nail-biting battle between the clubs to get the taste of the European Football. Everything still to play for on Premier League Gameweek 38. Liverpool had already confirmed their Premier League title in Gameweek 31 and with them, Manchester City has also secured their spot at next season Champions league football after their appeal against the ban of UEFA has been sustained by CAS. So there are two qualifying spots remaining for next season’s Champions League and also the Europa League spot has not been decided yet. Everything will be cleared on Premier league Gameweek 38.

Premier League Gameweek 38 points table
Current standings for European football

Race for the Champions League spots

As previously mentioned after Liverpool and Man City has secured their European spots, there are just two spots remaining to qualify for the top tier of European Football. But the battle is not Equal as 3 clubs are fighting for the same property right now. Leicester City, Manchester United and Chelsea; everyone is desperate to achieve their goal which is to enter next season’s champions league at any cost.

Premier League Gameweek 38 Fixtures:-

  • Leicester City  VS Manchester United
  • Chelsea VS Wolves

Leicester City

Leicester City has made their own job harder day by day as they have lost their 14points lead and a massive goal difference to Manchester United in a dramatic way. Leicester also lost their match against Tottenham Hotspur at Gameweek 37+ which made another huge blow in the Race of Champions League. They will face their rival for these spots, Manchester United on Premier league gameweek 38+ at the King Power Stadium. Leicester has to win their final game against United to qualify for the Champions League spot. Although Leicester is facing a huge injury crisis as their 3 first team players, James Maddison, Ben Chilwell, Ricardo Pereira are out for the season and defender Caglar Soyuncu is suspended for three matches as he saw a direct red card against Bournemouth for kicking an opposition player. Form of Jamie Vardy is also a concern for Brendon Rodgers side. So surely it will be a tough one for them.

Manchester United

Manchester United has shown a massive improvement in their playing style after the lockdown period. United drew their match against West Ham United at Gameweek 37+. But it was their “Portuguese Magnifico” Bruno Fernandes who changed the whole scenario. Fernandes has not lost a single premier league game after joining the red devils in January. Also, key players like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and wonderkid Mason Greenwood are doing brilliantly since then. The only problem is the fatigue issue creating a problem for United players and for this manager Solskjaer failed to use his set team against Chelsea at FA cup Semi-final and lost the match. Also United spoiled a chance to go to the third spot at Gameweek 35+ but they drew against Southampton and the chance went out. Their main Goal Keeper David De Gea‘s recent form and performance is also a concern for the team, as he was very much responsible for United’s loss against Chelsea as he conceded two nasty goals which were absolutely unacceptable to the whole united team. But still United are favourites to qualify for the Champions League spot. They just need 1point from the Leicester match to confirm next season’s European Football. But still manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is very much careful and tells that the match will be tough surely. Manchester United has beaten Leicester at Old Trafford last time they met at the Premier league.

Chelsea

Chelsea has actually the toughest fixtures in GW 37 and GW 38. They faced champions Liverpool at Anfield but lost the game in GW 37 in a thrilling 5-3 encounter. They are now at 4th position of the table. Chelsea will face Europa league spot hunters Wolves which will surely be a tough game for Frank Lampard’s men. Chelsea also performed very well after the premier league restarted. Frank Lampard has actually done an immense job with his young squad. Players like Willian, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Reece James, Billy Gilmour performed quite well since the restart. Striker Oliver Giroud actually got his old form back and scoring in games after games. Chelsea also beat Manchester United at FA cup semi-final which is surely a massive boost for Frank Lampard’s team. Chelsea is eager to get the Champions League spot as they think their team deserve to play Champions League next season as they have already made some major signings like Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner. Chelsea’s only problem is their defence and for what their Goal difference is massively low comparing to Manchester United and Leicester City. If they fail to win the game against Wolves this goal difference will surely create problems in their top4 hopes.

The equation for earning Champions League spot for each team

  • Manchester United(VS Leicester): Win or draw or Chelsea loss against Wolves
  • Chelsea(VS Wolves): Win or draw or loss and Manchester United win against Leicester
  • Leicester City(VS Manchester United): Win or draw and Chelsea loss against Wolves

Race for Europa League

Only one qualifier spot is available for the Europa League spot and Tottenham Hotspurs, Wolves are fighting for it. Spurs did not start too well under Jose Mourinho, but their performance in previous matches helped them to climb up to the league again, And they are now the favourites to secure the qualifier spot to qualify for the Europa League. Wolves on the other hands are fighting for the champions league spot too, but unfortunately, they can’t qualify for next season’s Champions League now and made their focus to get the qualifier to play Europa League next season. Arsenal has lost the opportunity after they have lost their match against Aston Villa in Gameweek 37. Arsenal is going to finish in their lowest position ever in Premier league since 1995.

Relegation battle

The relegation battle is also very much exciting and comes to Premier league gameweek 38+ for the decider. Norwich City already has been relegated and just two spots remaining for relegation. Watford, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are fighting for the survival. Bournemouth and Watford however lost their match in gameweek 37+ against Southampton and Manchester City respectively.
