Thomas Meunier to Borussia Dortmund is now close to a confirmed deal with only a few last details to be completed soon. Speculations were going on for a few days that Thomas Meunier will leave PSG this season after he opted to extend his contract for a short term with the French Giants to play for them in the Champions League.
Dortmund, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur were the top 3 clubs who were in the race for the Belgian defender. Finally, Dortmund made it clear that they wanted him more. The guaranteed first-team football helped Meunier to decide his destination easily.

Meunier will be a free agent for Dortmund

Paris Saint Germain has already confirmed that Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani and club captain Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will leave the club in summer. Also, Meunier and Layvin Kurzawa‘s future is unstable here, PSG Director Leonardo told French Outlet Le Journal du Dimanche before.

“The idea is also to end here with them, but we have to discuss the next two months. We will try to keep the whole squad for the Champions League.”

The Belgian right-back is expected to sign a four-year contract with Dortmund as a Free agent after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on 30th June 2020.

Dortmund will play the last Bundesliga game of their season on Saturday against Hoffenheim. Thomas Meunier will join the German giants in their pre-season session as the Bundesliga will start the season 2020/21 from 21st August, two days before the UEFA Champions League Final. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano had reported it earlier on Twitter.

Thomas Meunier: One to watch

The Belgian international started his career at Belgian club Club Brugge and played their 198 matches, scored 20goals, and provided 22 assists. Later in 2016, he joined Paris- Saint-Germain. He played 128 matches in the PSG shirt and scored 13 goals also provided 21 assists. He can play both as a Right-Back or Right Midfielder. Thomas Meunier to Borussia will bring a lot of European experience to the young Dortmund lineup.

Hakimi: Returning to Real Madrid?

Thomas Meunier to Borussia Dortmund means the club is looking for a right-back this season eagerly as Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi is expected to leave the club and join his parent club again after two seasons with Dortmund. Rumours did surround at first that Hakimi might join Bayern Munchen for two years but Hakimi’s agent dismissed the speculation.

“Nobody from Bayern or Real Madrid spoke to me about a possible move for Achraf to Bayern. We are totally relaxed and calm about the future of Achraf. He has a great relationship with Real Madrid and there is currently no reason for any talks because Achraf has a contract with Real Madrid until 2022. We’ll see what happens when he returns to Madrid in the summer”.

The Dortmund management thinks that Thomas Meunier can surely cover-up for his position. Meunier will also not play in the Champions League for PSG as the French club had already qualified for the Champions League last 8 before the tournament was withheld due to the whole COVID-19 pandemic situation. Ironically, PSG beat Dortmund in the round of 16, as they progressed in Europe.
