Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is confident that the club is close to extending Dean Henderson’s loan deal from Manchester United until the end of the season . Dean Henderson’s future looks bright as he has been in excellent form this season.
The 23-year-old has been outstanding for the Blades as they have mounted a surprise challenge for European football during their first season back in the Premier League.
Henderson is currently contracted to Manchester United until 2022 with an option to extend a further year. He signed a new contract last summer after having a successful loan spell with Sheffield United in the Championship the year before. If he signed a new contract this summer it’d be the third summer in a row. His loan is due to expire on June 30 and Wilder has spoken to United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about prolonging his stay at Bramall Lane to cover the extended campaign.
Henderson, 23, has already been inundated with offers ahead of next season but does not expect United to sell him amid the possibility he is appointed their first-choice goalkeeper next season. Chelsea are among the clubs interested in Henderson, who is contracted to United until 2022 and the club has the option to extend it for one more year. It would be interesting to see if Manchester United tries to tie Dean Henderson’s future at Old Trafford with another contract.
Henderson has signed improved deals in the last two summers after starting two seasons on loan at Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United , where he will see out the current Premier League term. Henderson is bent on signing shorter contracts as he intends not to end up in a similar situation to former United academy goalkeeper Sam Johnstone , who repeatedly signed contract offers until he permanently left at the age of 25 without playing for the club.
Wilder on Henderson and United
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has been speaking about the upcoming clash with Manchester United and Dean Henderson’s (slightly) extended loan from the Old Trafford club.
“[I’ve] had a chat with the manager(Ole ) and he was fine with Dean extending until the end of the season, I appreciate Ole’s help with that. Dean’s been great for us and we’ve been great for Dean, hopefully that gets done soon. I believe it’s now just administration with the two clubs. “

Ole on Dean Henderson’s future
Dean Henderson is clearly the future No.1, Ole has said that himself recently.
Solskjaer has said that Henderson has “proved” that he will go on to become the first-choice goalkeeper for United and England, putting increased pressure on current United ‘keeper David de Gea.
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically, we’re looking at that in terms of where he’s going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.”
Ole Gunner Solksjaer , Manchester United head coach
A change to the No.1 spot would be huge to the club. De Gea has effectively made legendary status his own after getting the Player of the Year for four times. For a goalkeeper, that is a rare achievement. De Gea single-handedly kept the club from embarrassing positions due to a series of world-class performances over many seasons.
“We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Manchester United. There’s no sign that he’s going to leave the club, why would he? He already had the opportunity a couple of times. For every youngster and especially young goalkeepers, there is so much that you need to learn when it comes to the toughest end of top football like the Champions League and international tournaments. You have to have so much experience and I see no harm in Dean Henderson continuing playing for Sheffield United. Every day he will learn something new.”
Peter Schmeichel , Former No. 1 for Manchester United on the goalkeeper situation at the club
De Gea signed a new four-year deal with the option for a further year last September, but Solskjaer is keeping an eye on the progress 23-year-old Henderson continues to make. It will be pressure mounting on David De Gea if he performs poorly for the remainder of the season. It could open doors for Henderson in the future. The English goalkeeper looks to be all set to grab the opportunity with his gloves. It is completely on Manchester United’s table to decide what will happen on Dean Henderson’s future.
